Vice-chancellor Awards Top Publisher Dr. Mohammed Musah
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Emmanuel Ohene Afoakwa, has once again affirmed his commitment to the promotion of research by honoring his pledge to award individuals who are able to distinguish themselves in terms of academic publication.
During this year’s Breakfast meeting, the Vice-Chancellor announced that any staff member who could publish at least 10 papers in High impact factor journals would be awarded with a cash prize of $1000, and true to his word, Prof. Afoakwa has made a presentation to the first member of staff to achieve this remarkable feat.
Dr. Mohammed Musah, who emerged as the maiden winner of the award with 10 publications in top journals, was honored during a brief ceremony organized by the Vice-Chancellor. The VC was joined by the Pro Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Robert Hinson, the Registrar, Mr. Emmanuel Baidoo, and the Director of Human Resource and Organizational Development, Dr. Emmanuel Adjepong, as they collectively congratulated Dr. Musah, who is a lecturer at the GCTU Business School.
The Vice-Chancellor paid glowing tribute to Dr. Musah and reiterated his dedication to the proliferation of academic research and publication within the University. He said, “It is only right that we honor the pledge that was made to award excellence in publication, and I encourage Dr. Musah not to stop here, but to continue and strive to do more in terms of research and publication.” The Pro Vice-Chancellor in turn echoed Prof. Afoakwa in congratulating Dr. Musah for setting such a worthy precedent, adding that he was “very proud of him”.
Dr. Musah also took the opportunity to communicate his gratitude to Prof. Afoakwa and Management, he intimated his delight at being part of the GCTU fraternity and gave an insight into why he was motivated to join the University, stating, “I chose GCTU because I saw the story that is being written here and I wanted to be a part of that story”. Dr. Musah also assured Management of his commitment and asserted that he would continue to give of his best in terms of both teaching and research.
As the ceremony drew to a close, Dr. Adjepong thanked the Vice-Chancellor for honoring his pledge, and also paid tribute to his commitment to the vision he had outlined. According to Dr. Adjepong, “This bears testament to the manner in which the Vice-Chancellor is living up to his vision of promoting research and publication. We thank him for this initiative and we are sure that this will inspire others”.
