SPSS Workshop

The Ghana Technology University College (GTUC), under the auspices of the Office of Research Services and Innovation (ORSI) and the Graduate School, organised a one-day workshop on SPSS on Wednesday, March 4, 2020, at the Graduate School, Room G6. The workshop was handled by a team of resource persons from ORSI led by Prof. Joseph Mensah.

The aim of the workshop was to introduce participants to SPSS, and help them to understand what types of statistical tools to use under what assumptions and circumstances. Within the three hours or so of this workshop, participants were introduced to the basics of descriptive, inferential, and multivariate statistics. Additionally, there were hands-on demonstrations on how to code questionnaire data under SPSS and analyze them by way of simple frequencies and percentages.

The workshop brought together over 70 participants from GTUC, most of whom were graduate and undergraduate students and some faculty members. The workshop offered a conducive atmosphere under which participants were able to interact quite freely with the resource persons.

Participants were able to appreciate the blend of practice and theory of basic statistics with relevant and contextual cases. Given the interest in this first workshop, ORSI is hoping to conduct another SPSS workshop before the end of this term.
