
The GCTU Engineering Students Association (ESA), comprising 40 individuals, has gained hands-on insight into the regulatory framework and operations of the National Communications Authority (NCA) on Friday, August 1, 2025, at the NCA tower, Accra.

The tour, organized by the Industrial Liaison Department (ILD), in collaboration with ESA, aimed at enhancing their understanding of the telecommunications industry.
Some of the highlights of the tour included exploring:
- The Cyber Security Division: – students gained understanding on Cyber Hygiene; the best practices for online security and safety, NCA Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT), which prevents and deals with cyber security and incidents and Monitoring Applications; use of various tools to monitor internet traffic and malicious activity.

Communications Monitoring and Common Platform Centre: – NCA monitors the quality of service provided by mobile network companies and has automated the monitoring process, using mini servers to collect data on network performance 24/7. NCA evaluates the performance of the companies based on KPI’s such as voice and data services. The common platform system, on the other hand, provides a comprehensive solution for monitoring and managing network traffic, mobile money payment systems and their operations and accurate revenue calculation for Ghana Revenue Authority.

Broadcasting Monitoring Centre: – ensures technical compliance, content quality and adherence to regulations.

Earlier, there were presentations from some departments at NCA, including the Corporate Affairs, Consumer Affairs, Engineering Division and Cyber Security Division, highlighting their roles and responsibilities before the tour kicked off.
Ms. Sarah Naa Odey Aryee, on behalf of the Assistant Registrar at ILD, Mrs. Gloria Adelaide Sosu, and the ESA president, Rosemond Benson led the students. Ms. Aryee expressed her gratitude to the NCA for the hospitality and the insightful experience.
