Career Compass Seminar To Guide Fresh Students On Academic And Professional Pathways

The Office of the Dean of Students, through its Career Development Unit, has organized “The Career Compass Seminar” for fresh students on Thursday, February 19, 2026 at the Florence Onny Auditorium.

The seminar, held under the theme “Navigating Your Future through Discovering Your Career Fit and Aligning Skills and Interests,” was aimed at guiding students in making informed academic and professional choices.

The Dean of Students Affairs, Prof. Emelia Amoako-Asiedu, warmly welcomed the fresh students and urged them to carefully absorb the insights shared during the seminar and apply them meaningfully as they embark on their academic journey.

The Head of Undergraduate Admissions and facilitator for the seminar, Dr. Kwame Owusu Afram, highlighted practical steps which students can take to identify the right career paths. He encouraged students to identify their hobbies and interests, write them down and align them strategically with potential career opportunities to achieve success. He outlined the following key steps:

1. Discover your hobbies and what you are naturally good at.
2. Identify your personality traits.
3. Determine what you want to achieve in your career.
4. Find a mentor who is already established in your chosen field.
5. Engage and network with industry players.
6. Research the job market to understand current trends and opportunities.

The seminar brought together new students from the various faculties to explore diverse career pathways, identify their personal strengths and interests and develop practical strategies for aligning their academic pursuits with future professional opportunities.
