GCTU Partners With Institute Of Certified Chartered Economists (ICCE)
GCTU’s focus on professional development was once again in full focus as the University formally entered into a ground-breaking partnership with the Institute of Certified Chartered Economists (ICCE). The partnership, which has been formed under the auspices of the GCTU Business School’s Department of Economics, comes hot on the heels of a recently signed partnership with Hubtel Ltd, and undoubtedly signals the University’s intention to collaborate extensively with corporate and professional bodies both home and abroad.
Held at the Business School campus on Tuesday, 9th May 2023, the MOU signing was attended by the Dean of the Business School, Prof. George Oppong Appiagyei, the Head of the Economics Department, Dr. Richard Asravor, and some faculty members from the Department, including Dr. Isaac Ankrah, Ms. Lilian Arthur, and Mr. Christopher Lamptey. ICCE were represented by a two-member contingent; Mr. Paul Frimpong, the Global Head for Membership, and Ms. Gifty Boatemaa Annan, the Executive Secretary.
The programme began as the Dean, Prof. Ampong, officially welcomed everyone present, thanking them for making time to attend. He went on to express his eager anticipation at the opportunity that the partnership would represent, not least in terms of the massive potential for the professional development of GCTU students. He said, “We look forward to the chance to benefit from your accreditation, and we believe the most important aspect of this collaboration is related to professional development. We hope to organize a number of seminars for both our students and faculty soon.” Prof. Ampong concluded by pledging his team’s dedication to the sustained progress of the partnership. He affirmed that as an institution, GCTU would deliver on its part of the agreement to guarantee that the collaboration would flourish.
After the Dean’s opening remarks, Dr. Asravor took the opportunity to thank him for his instrumental role in facilitating such an important agreement. He also alluded to the Dean’s assertion regarding GCTU’s commitment to the advancement of the partnership, expressing his assurance that he, along with his team, would not relent in contributing significantly to the success of partnership.
For their part, the ICCE team expressed their gratitude at being able to establish the partnership with GCTU. Their representative, Mr. Paul Frimpong, highlighted their organization’s expectation of the success of the collaboration, particularly bearing in mind that the University represents a “special environment because of its structure and the large pool it provides for potential members”. He added that as an organization, they value the opportunity to impart in the lives of students who are in the development stage of their careers. According to Mr. Frimpong, “ICCE wants to ensure that its beneficiaries receive more than just a certificate, because that is just 10% of what is on offer. Ultimately, sustained professional development is at the core of what we seek to achieve”.
The programmed then moved on to the signing section, as the Dean and the ICCE representative signed off on the agreement, adding their signatures to the Vice-Chancellor’s, who had earlier penned his signature to the MOU. In his closing remarks, Prof. Ampong spoke once again of his excitement and confidence in the success of the partnership, declaring that he was looking forward to seeing the MOU being actualized.
Finally, Dr. Asravor gave a vote of thanks, expressing his appreciation to the Dean once again, and then to the ICCE team for choosing GCTU. He added that he would work together with his team to keep the partnership functional and active, ultimately placing GCTU at the center of the ICCE both nationally and globally.
Congratulations to Prof. Ampong, Dr. Asravor and everyone involved in bringing this partnership to fruition. We anticipate exciting times ahead and a plethora of opportunities as this collaboration goes from strength to strength!
