GCTU Signs Partnership Agreement With Hubtel Ltd

In GCTU’s continued bid to strengthen its connection with industry and business, Management has put pen to paper on yet another exciting partnership. This latest agreement, which was signed on Wednesday, May 3rd 2023, signaled the confirmation of a collaboration with Hubtel Ltd, a leading Ghanaian financial technology company established in 2005, with a primary focus on providing everyday essential solutions to its customers.

The MOU signing, held at the Vice-Chancellor’s Board room, was attended by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Emmanuel Ohene Afoakwa, the Pro Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Robert Ebo Hinson, the Registrar, Mr. Emmanuel Baidoo, and the Head of the Industrial Liaison office, Mr. Ahmed Antwi-Boampong, who was accompanied by his assistant, Mr. Michael Kwame Appiah. Hubtel Ltd was also represented by a 5-member team, including their operational team leads.

Kicking of proceedings, Mr. Antwi-Boampong, whose office was primarily responsible for initiating the partnership and the subsequent drafting of the MOU, gave a brief overview of how the collaboration had been forged after a sustained period of engagement between their office and the Hubtel operational team.

The Vice-Chancellor, who chaired the event, then took the opportunity to welcome the Hubtel contingent, before intimating his anticipation of the collaboration’s potential, stating, “We are excited to collaborate and enter into a mutually beneficial agreement with Hubtel and we look forward to discovering the opportunities which are going to be available.” Prof. Afoakwa also alluded to the University’s ICT-based mandate, pointing to the University’s intention to expand in that particular area and emphasizing the timeliness and relevance of the agreement.

Prof. Afoakwa asserted, “GCTU wants to grow and we also want to develop the human capital the country needs in terms of ICT. As such, this partnership is definitely worthwhileWhen it comes to ICT, we are the go-to institution, and we want to collaborate with the best in the industry so we can help to push the nation along at a fast rate in terms of ICT development.”

After making a short presentation detailing their company’s services, leadership composition and the company’s evolution since its establishment, the leader of the Hubtel team reiterated their organization’s ambition to capitalize on technology to enter the e-commerce and telecommunications space, also adding their excitement at the prospect of engaging with GCTU students through their internship programme.

He said, “We see payments and communications as one of the main problems in Ghana and we want to provide solutions. We believe there is a lot of talent here at GCTU and we look forward to working with your students through internships. We want to grow and thrive, and we need competent Human Resources for that.” He concluded by thanking the Industrial Liaison office for their excellent facilitation which had culminated in the signing of the MOU.

The meeting ended with the signing of the MOU, as the Vice-Chancellor penned his signature to what certainly promised to be another progressive, and hugely beneficial partnership for the University. We salute the work of the Industrial Liaison office in making this a reality, and we look forward to even more fruitful collaborations in the future.
