On Thursday, 18th August 2022, the Lookupp app, which is an application designed to give students access to tutorials on subjects they may need extra tuition in, was launched.

The app, which was developed by a team of alumni led by Kevin Anamoah-Sampong, was launched against the backdrop of an SRC General Assembly meeting.

The Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Michael Owusu-Akomeah, officially launched the app and described it as a very beneficial tool to enhance the learning experience of students on campus.

He said that a couple of months ago, he was approached by the lead developer, Kevin Anamoah-Sampong who sold the idea of developing an app that would help students to get up to speed with courses that are difficult for them to learn. “So today we are here to demonstrate that there is something that can help you as students”, he added.

Mr. Anamoah-Sampong explained briefly the concept behind the creation of the app and demonstrated how it works.

He said during his time as a student, some particular courses posed a bit of a challenge to students; if they had had help from other students or even Teaching Assistants, it would have made life so much easier.

“So, this app is essentially a convergence point between really brilliant students and those who need help”, he said.

Regarding the operationalization of the app, he explained that it lists all the courses currently offered at GCTU including a few that Lookupp itself will be offering. Brilliant students would therefore have the option to sign up and teach any of the courses they are good in. A search on the app would typically bring up their profiles for any student needing help to contact them.

To ensure that anybody who signs up as a tutor is really up to the task, the team would contact them, assess them and help them set up their classes. This way, they are sure that students are getting the value they need.

Once a student finds a particular tutor, he or she can look at their details and agree with them on a fee to be paid.  The user would then go through the prompts and complete the signing-up process.

The user would then go through the prompts and complete the signing-up process.  The app allows anybody to sign up either as a tutor or a student with the click of a button. The team admits however that tutors would need to be sensitized so that they do not go overboard with their charges. To forestall this challenge the team has put in place a policy to control the charges. The other members of the team are Kennedy Abubakar, Thomas Asare and Elvis Blankson.

Dr. Michael Owusu-Akomeah congratulated the team for their initiative and ingenuity. Other members of the team are Kennedy Abubakar, Thomas Asare and Elvis Blankson

Our congratulations go to Mr. Kevin Anamoah-Sampong and the team for their initiative and ingenuity in creating this app. We are sure our current students will take inspiration from this fine achievement.
