GCTU Matriculates Over 3,500 New Students In 33rd Matriculation Ceremony
Ghana Communication Technology University (GCTU) has held its 33rd Matriculation Ceremony on Saturday, 24th February 2024 at the Forecourt of its Tesano campus to induct over 3,500 new students to the institution.
In his matriculation address, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Emmanuel Ohene Afoakwa expressed his immense pleasure and pride in extending a warm welcome to the newest members of GCTU to the institution. He highlighted GCTU’s commitment to excellence in ICT education, emphasizing the importance of knowledge acquisition and integrity and urged the students to uphold the University’s values. With a record enrollment of 3,517 students in various programmes, including Data Science, Cyber Security, and Artificial Intelligence, Prof. Afoakwa outlined GCTU’s focus on producing graduates equipped with skills sought after by industry.
Additionally, Prof. Afoakwa announced GCTU’s enhanced efforts in rebranding, infrastructural development and the establishment of a GCTU Centre for Innovation, Technology Skills and Entrepreneurship Training (CITSET). He also emphasized GCTU’s dedication to students’ holistic development and active participation in extracurricular activities, engendering the commissioning of a newly-constructed Multi-purpose Sports Complex for students recently.
Furthermore, the Vice-Chancellor mentioned the University’s commitment to providing modern ICT facilities, including improved internet connectivity and the initiation of the “One Laptop, One Student” project. He concluded by challenging students to make the most of their time at GCTU, emphasizing the institution’s role in shaping future leaders in the ICT field.
In an Expectation Address, delivered by the student admitted with the highest WASSCE grade and on behalf of matriculants, Mr. Shadrack Senam Tedros Gator, an IT student expressed his gratitude to the University leadership, faculty, and fellow students. He also acknowledged the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead of matriculants and emphasized the importance of collaboration, resilience, and critical thinking in navigating the academic journey.
Drawing inspiration from luminaries like Albert Einstein and Nelson Mandela, Mr. Gator encouraged his peers to embrace challenges and use their education to make a positive impact on society. He highlighted the potential for innovation and creativity in ICT, while urging students to strive for excellence and contribute to societal development.
The 33rd Matriculation Ceremony which was attended by members of Management, staff, parents and friends, celebrated the beginning of a new academic and transformative journey for incoming students, focusing on academic excellence, technological innovation and holistic development.
