GCTU Bids Farewell To 2022/23 Batch Of National Service Personnel

GCTU has held a heartwarming send-off gathering for its 2022/23 batch of National Service personnel on Wednesday, 27th September 2023.

The send-off gathering served as a forum for the University to acknowledge and celebrate the contributions of the National Service Personnel to the advancement of the University. It was also to wish them well in their future endeavours.

The Pro Vice-Chancellor and Chairman of the occasion, Prof. Robert E. Hinson extended his gratitude to all National Service personnel he had encountered over the last 20 years.

He commended their invaluable contributions in closing the human capital gap and shared his experiences of recruiting National Service persons. Prof. Hinson emphasized the importance of working carefully, living with honour, finding purpose, and having courage in one’s journey.

The Director of Human Resource and Institutional Advancement, Dr. Emmanuel Adjepong, who acted as the MC, emphasized the importance of the National Service programme in bolstering the university’s workforce. He underlined the significance of individuals as a company’s most valuable assets and bid farewell to the service personnel, wishing them success in their future endeavours.

Additionally, he advised them to plan for their future by preparing strong CVs and explained the three workplace occasions that could lead to disciplinary action: competence, attitude, and redundancy.

Dr. Adjepong also stressed the importance of adhering to principles such as functional justice, procedural justice, distributive justice, and interaction in their professional lives.

Speaking on behalf of the National Service Personnel, the Vice President of the North Ayawaso Assembly National Service Personnel Association, Mr. David Tonkouru Baah recounted the journey filled with triumphs and challenges during their service year.

He expressed gratitude for the guidance and support received from GCTU and its various Departments. David also touched upon the financial challenges faced by the service personnel, highlighting the importance of resourcefulness and financial literacy.

The special guests at the programme

During the programme, Dr. Michael Owusu-Akomeah and Dr. Nusrat-Jahan Abubakar, representing faculty and Administration respectively, also delivered goodwill messages. They praised the dedication and contribution of the service personnel, expressing their desire to support further education and opportunities for them. The faculty members affirmed their commitment to maintaining a strong relationship with the service personnel even after their departure.

It was a day filled with appreciation, reflection, and valuable advice as they prepare to embark on new paths in their careers and lives. The university wishes them nothing but the best as they continue to make a positive impact on society.
