GCTU SRC Hosts Enlightening Seminar: ‘what I Wish I Knew Before I Left University’

The Student Representative Council (SRC) of GCTU in collaboration with Reset Global People and Berean Campus Church, has hosted a one-day seminar on Friday, March 14, 2025, at the Florence Onny Auditorium.
The seminar, titled “What I Wish I Knew Before I Left University” was aimed at providing level 100 students with valuable insights and advice to prepare them for life after university.

Speaking at the event, the CEO of COD Construction and Engineering, Mr. Cwesi Oteng Desmond, delivered a motivational address, stressing that a single opportunity can be a game-changer in one’s life. He shared how he once believed that success would come effortlessly but later learned the value of hard work and perseverance. “While growing up, I thought life would give me all the beautiful things I needed and life would be easy, until I was hit with realities,” he noted.  Mr. Oteng encouraged the students to remain resilient and focused, urging them not to give up on their dreams and aspirations.

The Lead of City Hope, Futurist Kwame offered words of wisdom, encouraging participants to practice self-compassion when faced with failure. He emphasized that failure is an integral part of life’s education system, teaching valuable lessons and promoting growth. “Life will confront you with challenges and you will make decisions that may not always be the best. But don’t let failure consume you,” he elaborated.

Futurist Kwame highlighted the importance of nurturing genuine friendships, cautioning against ‘convenience friendships’ that can ultimately harm relationships. “Do not burn bridges. Leave every relationship that has served you well on good terms, because God can orchestrate help and destiny through the same people in the future. According to him, entertainment can be a powerful tool for indoctrination, influencing values and beliefs. He urged participants to strive for high values, skills and competence, emphasizing the importance of personal growth and development.

Host of Connected Minds Podcast, Mr. Derrick Abaitey opened up about his personal experiences, offering a glimpse into the struggles and triumphs that have defined his path. He challenged participants to adopt a selfless mindset, urging them to pursue endeavours that would positively impact others. “Whatever you plan to do, ensure it touches lives beyond your own,” he said, emphasizing the value of making a meaningful difference in the world. Mr. Abaitey highlighted the need for mentorship, urging students to find coaches and mentors who can provide valuable guidance and support, while also cautioning against the dangers of promiscuity.

He further stressed the need for careful decision-making, reminding the students to always consider the ‘God-factor’ in their choices. “Don’t forget to seek divine guidance,” he encouraged.
