In his address, Ing. Kpetigo urged Convocation to “Let us work as one united body – Council, Convocation and Administration – committed to academic excellence and innovation. The challenges ahead are real, but so too are the opportunities for transformation.”
He reaffirmed the Council’s vision to position GCTU as a centre of excellence in technology, innovation and entrepreneurship – producing graduates who are not job seekers, but job creators and leaders in the digital economy. He emphasized the importance of unity between Council and Convocation, calling for proactive engagement, collaborative problem-solving and shared responsibility in building the University’s future.

The Vice-Chancellor delivering his address to Convocation

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Emmanuel Ohene Afoakwa, lauded the remarkable progress of GCTU in recent years, highlighting the institution’s leap from 28th place in the 2021 Ghana Universities Ranking to 7th place in 2025. He credited this success to deliberate and collaborative efforts in academic programme expansion, research growth, infrastructure development, and strengthened industry partnerships. Prof. Afoakwa expressed confidence in the University’s ability to achieve its target of becoming one of Ghana’s top five universities, especially among the long-established traditional universities, within the next five years, with student numbers projected to grow from 12,000 to 30,000.

Closing the session, Ing. Kpetigo commended the constructive nature of the engagement and reiterated the need for mutual respect, idea sharing, and collective commitment to the University’s growth. “Let us be proud of this University. When you leave and look back, you should be able to say with confidence that you were part of its transformation story,” he urged.
