The Minister for Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, has said that “Empowering Minds, Inspiration Change” aligns seamlessly with government’s reset agenda and the Ministry of Education’s overarching goal of transforming Ghana’s education system into a global beacon of excellence.
The Minister’s remarks were delivered in a keynote address read by the Deputy Director of Tertiary Education at the Ministry of Education (MoE), Mr. Paa Kodwo Sam, during the launch of the GCTU Business Students Association (BSA) 2025 Week Celebration which took place on June 16, 2025, at the Business School Campus in Abeka, under the theme: “Empowering Minds, Inspiring Change.”

The Hon. Minister highlighted government’s commitment to developing human capital, supporting tertiary education institutions and providing necessary resources for global-standard education and training. He further outlined MoE’s goal for tertiary education – to produce well-rounded individuals equipped with knowledge, skills and values.
“I am confident that the knowledge, skills and values acquired by GCTU students have empowered them to develop sustainable solutions to challenges facing the nation,” Mr. Iddrisu remarked. According to him, empowerment needs direction, and education must spark passion and instill purpose.
Mr. Iddrisu stressed that the government of Ghana through MoE, is working on the implementation of the “No-Fee-Stress” Policy to ensure that no qualified person is denied admission to tertiary education institutions for the reason of lack of funds. “Under the ‘No-Fee-Stress’ Policy, the government will pay the first year academic fees for all persons who gain admission to pursue a programme of study in a public education institution,” he emphasized.
The Minister hinted at government’s plans to elevate the Scholarships Secretariat to a fully-fledged authority to oversee the administration of scholarships, ensuring transparency, fairness and accountability. Mr. Iddrisu expressed appreciation for the hard work and dedication of faculty members and staff in their crucial role in GCTU’s success.

Speaking at the event, the Dean of the GCTU Business School and Chairman of the event, Prof. George Oppong Ampong, stated that the event is celebrated annually, making it a recurring tradition.
He indicated that Business Schools are pivotal in shaping the future of business management education. Prof. Ampong further stated that ideas and innovations need practical application, stressing that development is just the first step, but it is the utilization that brings real impact and solves problems. He cited the example of the robot, built by students at the University to drive home the point that innovation requires going beyond just creation to application and problem-solving.

Giving his remarks earlier at the launch, the President of BSA, Mr. Obed Dwamena Nyampong, emphasized that “Empowering Minds, Inspiring Change” is a call to action, urging fellow students to embrace innovation, lead with courage and clarity and move beyond conventional thinking.
He further added that the celebration is seen as a catalyst for change, symbolized as a “seed” that will grow in the minds of individuals who dare to believe in change and recognize change as a personal responsibility. “As we proceed with today’s activities, may we listen deeply, engage meaningfully and act boldly. For in today’s classrooms, stand the captains of tomorrow and in each empowered mind, lies the power to inspire change,” Mr. Nyampong noted.

During a panel discussion session, experts from diverse backgrounds shared their insights and experiences, offering valuable perspectives on the topic, “From Classroom to Community: Inspiring Change through Service Learning.”
