JPCANN Associates Supports GCTU Silicon Valley Agenda With Laptops

JPCann Associates Ltd, a Management Consultancy Firm in Accra, has donated five high-specification laptops to GCTU on Tuesday, 10th September 2024.
The donation was made during a ceremony held on campus, with key officials from both institutions in attendance.
In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Emmanuel Ohene Afoakwa, highlighted the significance of the donation in achieving GCTU’s goals.

“It’s exciting for us as an institution to receive this donation. We are developing an institution that will greatly benefit both academia and industry. Three of the laptops will be utilized in our digital hub for social media, contributing to the creation of centers of excellence in IT, Computer Science, and Artificial Intelligence,” Prof. Afoakwa stated.

He further shared updates on the University’s infrastructure developments, including the construction of a new six-storey Graduate School extension and an eight-storey hostel block. “I’m happy to announce to the entire house that I’ve secured financial clearance for another six-storey that is going to be starting soon,” he added, expressing optimism about the University’s trajectory.

The VC hinted that the University had plans to commence construction of the first among three eight-storey hostel blocks for which he was optimistic that within the next four to five years, the “Silicon Valley Agenda” would be achieved.

Representing JPCann Associates Ltd, the Director of Business Development and Administration, Mrs. Tracey Cann, expressed her company’s dedication to supporting GCTU’s vision. “We don’t give because we have in abundance; we give because we have the responsibility to care for you,” she said. Mrs. Cann highlighted the meticulous effort involved in procuring the laptops to meet the University’s specifications, emphasizing that the donation aligns with their slogan, “Building the capacity of nations.”

She also mentioned the possibility of future collaborations, including internships for GCTU students at JPCann Associates Ltd, further strengthening the partnership between the two institutions.

The Pro Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Robert Ebo Hinson, expressed profound appreciation for the gesture, emphasizing the importance of such contributions in advancing the University’s ambitious plans. “Several months ago, during the Vice-Chancellor’s breakfast meeting, we made an appeal for corporate support towards our Silicon Valley Agenda.

Today, we are here to receive the first of those donations,” Prof. Hinson noted.
Prof. Afoakwa concluded the ceremony by expressing his hope for continued collaboration, stating, “This is the beginning of a journey, and I believe that with your support, we will continue to push the agenda forward.”
