ICDE Holds Pre-examination Orientation for Undergraduate Students Ahead of First Semester Exams

Acting Head of ICDE, Dr. Boahemaa Brenya

The Institute of Continuous and Distance Education (ICDE) of the GCTU has organized a pre-examination orientation programme for its undergraduate students to prepare them for the End of First Semester Examinations on Saturday, May 16, 2026.

The one-day orientation programme, held virtually on Saturday, May 16, 2026, aimed to equip students with essential information on examination regulations, academic integrity and strategies for maintaining their mental well-being during the examination period.

In her opening remarks, the Acting Head of ICDE, Dr. Boahemaa Brenya, commended the dedication and resilience of the distance learners and encouraged them to approach their examinations with confidence, integrity and adequate preparation.

“This evening’s session is designed to prepare and guide you on the rules, expectations and best practices for the upcoming examinations,” she stated. “Please pay close attention to the information that will be shared here, as it will help ensure a smooth and successful examination.”

The Examination Officer of ICDE, Dr. Lillian Arthur, subsequently took students through the University’s examination rules and regulations. She emphasized the importance of punctuality, proper identification and strict adherence to examination guidelines.

Dr. Arthur reminded students to carefully review their examination timetables, arrive at examination centres at least 30 minutes before the start of each paper and present valid identification cards before entry into the examination halls.

She further cautioned students against engaging in examination malpractice, including possession of unauthorized materials, communication with other candidates during examinations, impersonation and the use of mobile phones or digital devices in examination halls.

According to her, students found culpable of examination malpractice risk sanctions such as cancellation of papers, suspension, dismissal or expulsion from the University.

“GCTU takes examinations seriously and there are consequences when students disobey the rules,” she stressed.

The session also addressed practical concerns regarding student identification cards and examination arrangements at various learning centres across the country.

Following the examination briefing, students participated in an interactive session with the University Psychologist, Ms. Mina Wilson, who engaged them in managing examination stress, maintaining emotional well-being and mentally preparing for successful examinations.

The orientation programme formed part of ICDE’s commitment to supporting students academically and psychologically to ensure the examinations which are scheduled for Saturday, May 23 – Sunday, May 24, 2026, and Saturday, May 30 – Sunday, May 31, 2026, are smooth and successful.
