GCTU’s P-learn Centre Undertakes Tree Planting Project

The P-Learn team was instrumental to the success of the project

We are proud to inform the University Community that the P-Learn Centre for Industrial Research and Innovation of GCTU has recently undertaken a tree planting project at Oboadaka, a village near Aburi in the Eastern Region.

The P-Learn team, led by Nana Agyemang-Prempeh, Dr. Ruhiya Abubakar, Dr. Emmanuel Freeman, Dr. Patrick Acheampong and Dr. Eric Ekobor-Ackah Mochiah, were instrumental in ensuring the success of this uniquely conceptualized project, which was aptly themed ‘Growing together, Greening Ghana’s Future’.

Organized in line with the Forestry Commission’s Green Ghana Agenda, the primary objective of the project was to promote environmental sustainability and combat deforestation. In addition, the project was also aimed at raising awareness among the local community regarding the importance of preserving and protecting the environment, particularly against the backdrop of increased environmental degradation.

The Green Ghana agenda is an initiative of the Forestry Commission

The tree planting project took place over a period of two days, starting from June 15, 2023, and concluding on June 17, 2023. During this period, the P-learn team, in collaboration with some members of the University community including the Registrar, Mr. Emmanuel Baidoo, the Dean of the School of Graduate Studies and Research, Prof. Ebenezer Malcalm, the Director of General Administration and Operations, Dr. Vera Graham Asante, and some faculty members, Dr. Doreen Nyarko Anyamesem Odame, Mr. Frank Boateng and Mr. Louis David Junior Annor, successfully planted a total of 2,000 trees in designated areas of Oboadaka. In addition, the team was joined by a number of students and local volunteers who also contributed to the success of the project.

Overall, the project was a huge success, achieving its outlined objectives of creating environmental awareness, contributing to reforestation and increasing community engagement among others. The P-Learn team is commended for their laudable efforts and admirable initiative in undertaking this project. We are confident that the team’s future activities will achieve even greater success and make sustainably significant impacts in the long term.
