GCTU Honours Retirees And Exceptional Administrative Staff
The Ghana Communication Technology University (GCTU) has showcased its unwavering commitment to recognizing and celebrating its outstanding retirees and administrative staff during its annual staff durbar held on March 19, 2024.
This prestigious event served as a platform for the Vice-Chancellor to articulate his vision for the institution while fostering meaningful interaction among staff members, allowing them to seek clarity and direction on pertinent issues.
Retirees Recognized for their Dedication
The awards commenced with a heartfelt acknowledgment and appreciation for the retirees whose years of dedicated service had significantly contributed to the University’s growth and success.
In a move to further recognize their commitment, a healthcare scheme was announced for retired staff, albeit not inclusive of their families. As retired staff of the University, they are entitled to attend any of GCTU’s partner clinics for free healthcare. Additionally, they have the option of visiting any clinic of their choice and after treatment, submit their receipts for reimbursement. This is to ensure they receive the care and support they deserve in their retirement years.
Among the esteemed retirees honoured were:
Prof. Stephen A. Asunka: With an illustrious career spanning 11 years, Prof. Asunka held pivotal roles such as Director of the Kumasi campus and Acting Dean of the Faculty of Engineering. His contributions have left an indelible mark on the University.
Mr. Joseph Wireko: Recognized for his ten years and seven months of service as a lecturer, Mr. Wireko’s commitment to academia has been commendable and has further enriched the academic environment of GCTU.
Mr. Emmanuel Tetteh and Mr. George Nyampong: Both honoured for their years of service as security guards, symbolizing the diverse contributions of every staff member, regardless of their role towards the University’s success.
Mr. Jerry Atta Fynn: Acknowledged for his nine years and five months of service as an Assistant Property officer, Mr. Fynn’s dedication to ensuring the smooth functioning of the Directorate of Works and Physical Development has been invaluable.
Mr. Courage Bleworda, Madam Comfort Opokua, Ms. Faustina Sarpong, Mr. Joseph Kanor, Mr. Moses Kwaw, Mr. Alexander Yao Adams and Madam Victoria Quaye: Each recognized for their respective roles, underscoring the rich human capital that forms the backbone of GCTU.
Exceptional Administrative Staff Honoured for Their Contributions

Surv. Gordon Ang-Bangdeme Baapiri: Recognized as the Best Administrative Director, Mr. Baapiri’s leadership has been pivotal in the successful implementation of numerous infrastructure projects, contributing to the University’s growth and development.
Architect Samuel Koomson: Honoured as the Best Administrative Senior Member (Professional), Architect Koomson’s innovative designs and timely execution of projects had reshaped the University’s physical landscape, reflecting his dedication to excellence.
Mr. Henry Kweku Amoah: Acknowledged for his instrumental role in enhancing the University’s online presence and user experience through his expertise in website development, Mr. Amoah’s contributions had facilitated effective stakeholder engagement and information dissemination.
Mr. Alex Tetteh: Recognized as the Best Junior Staff Worker, Mr. Tetteh’s unwavering loyalty, attention to detail and passion for his role had significantly contributed to upholding the standards of excellence at GCTU.
