GCTU Celebrates Excellence And Academic Distinction

Ghana Communication Technology University (GCTU) embraced an afternoon of recognition and celebration of staff excellence in the 2022-23 academic year during its annual staff durbar held on Tuesday, March 19, 2024.

The event, marked by camaraderie and a shared vision for academic advancement, saw the acknowledgment of exceptional academics and faculty who had propelled the corporate image of the institution forward through their unwavering dedication and will to excel in their respective careers.

Dr. Stephen Owusu Afriyie, a luminary in the Department of Accounting, Banking and Finance, Business School was the recipient of the “Best Lecturer for Teaching” award. This was in recognition of his commitment to enriching the classroom experience while fostering academic growth among students.

In the field of research, Prof. George Kofi Amoako emerged as a beacon of scholarly excellence, clinching the title of “Best Researcher.” His prolific contributions, marked by the publication of 26 distinguished papers in the year 2023, had garnered recognition from prestigious publication platforms such as Scopus and Web of Science, solidifying his stature as an innovator in academia.

Dr. Mohammed Musah was lauded as the “Best Emerging Researcher,” showcasing immense promise and potential through the publication of 17 impactful research papers. His early achievements signify a bright future ahead, poised to make significant contributions to the academic landscape.

The honour of “Best Dean” was bestowed on Prof. George Oppong Appiagyei Ampong, whose visionary leadership had catalyzed innovation and intellectual growth within the Business School. From spearheading the development of modern tech-based programmes to fostering strategic partnerships and securing substantial funding, Prof. Ampong’s endeavours have left an indelible mark on the University for posterity to experience.

Also, Dr. William Leslie Brown-Acquaye, was recognized as the “Best Head of Department.” His multifaceted responsibilities within the Department of Information Technology, coupled with his stint as a caretaker Dean of the Faculty of Computing and Information Systems (FOCIS), underscored his remarkable dedication and leadership prowess.

The crowning glory of the evening was the award for the “Best Faculty or School,” which rightfully adorned the Business School. This accolade symbolizes a collective effort in driving innovation, nurturing scholarly achievements, and fostering an environment conducive to academic excellence.

As GCTU continues its journey towards academic distinction, these exemplary individuals and faculty stand as pillars of inspiration, embodying the University’s tenets of excellence, innovation and progress. Their contributions bear a testimony to the rich human capital that propels GCTU towards greater heights of achievement and distinction in academia.
