GCTU Explores Collaborative Opportunities with Ontario Tech University

In a bid to foster collaboration and strengthen academic ties, GCTU has held a strategic partnership meeting with representatives from Ontario Tech University (OTU) in Canada on October 27, 2025, at the SGSR Dean’s boardroom.
The strategic meeting, aimed at affirming mutual commitment to advancing academic excellence and professional training through collaborative educational initiatives.

Speaking at the meeting, the Dean of SGSR and Acting Pro Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ebenezer Malcalm, who chaired the session on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, welcomed the OTU representatives. He highlighted GCTU’s cutting-edge programmes spanning from diploma to PhD levels. According to him, GCTU is tasked with providing ICT programmes, blending technology with curriculum to equip students for the digital age. He stressed that this mandate focuses on preparing graduates with relevant tech skills, enhancing their employability and innovation capacity. Prof. Malcalm added that the visiting team was present to solidify partnership talks and reinforce shared objectives.

In his remarks, the Managing Director of Aseity Group and Partner for OTU, Mr. Jon Sarpong, was excited about the warm welcome and exceptional hospitality from GCTU, creating a positive atmosphere for partnership talks. Notably, this reception surpassed those from their engagements with other institutions.

Mr. Sarpong further noted that OTU is recognized for its technology-driven education and dedication to ethical innovation. According to him, this collaboration could forge strong institutional bonds, fostering joint research initiatives, faculty exchanges and tailored programmes addressing industry needs.

The meeting aimed at affirming mutual commitment to advancing academic excellence.

Key focus areas for joint initiatives included a postgraduate certificate programme, with a split format: one year in Ghana and one year in Canada, covering:

  • Artificial Intelligence
  • Data Analytics
It was concluded at the meeting that the general framework, timelines and processes would be initiated by forming a joint team at both faculty and administrative levels.
