GCTU-ESA Climaxes Week Celebration With Seminar And Industrial Expo

GCTU Engineering Students Association (ESA) has marked the highlights of its week-long celebrations with a seminar and an industrial expo, held on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at the Eva Von Hirsch Auditorium.
The seminar, which was organized under the theme “Engineering the Future: Powering Innovation,” was a collaborative effort between ESA and the Industrial Liaison Department (ILD) and brought together thought leaders, showcasing cutting-edge technologies and sharing valuable industry insights.

Speaking at the event, the Chief Technology Officer at Compnet Solution Limited, Ing. Samuel K. Smith emphasized that tenacity and dedication are key to success in engineering, stressing that the students should forget about leisure and focus on their disciplines. He further added, that as aspiring engineers, they should be driven by strong work ethics, perseverance and willingness to continuously learn and adapt in order to excel in their fields. Ing. Smith urged the students to prioritize learning, skill-building and personal growth over financial gains, setting themselves up for long-term success and fulfillment in their engineering careers.
A Health and Safety Consultant of the World Health and Safety Organization, (WHSO) Ghana, Mr. Seun Bello stressed that strong understanding of safety protocols is crucial for mitigating risks and ensuring the well-being of oneself and others in high-risk engineering roles. Mr. Bello highlighted the importance of obtaining health and safety certifications to enhance employability and minimize project risks, as employers prioritize candidates with demonstrated expertise in safety management.

An Assistant Registrar of the ILD, Mrs. Gloria Adelaide Sosu, who represented the Head of ILD, Dr. Ahmed Antwi–Boampong at the seminar emphasized that ILD’s core mandate includes fostering collaboration between academia and industry, thereby facilitating hands-on training, providing students with valuable real-world experience and industry insights that enhance their employability and prepare them for the workforce.
In an interview, the ESA President, Rosemond Benson stressed, that the seminar and industrial expo are part of the week-long celebration of the Association, noting, that engaging industry professionals to speak at such events, offers students practical insights, enables them to learn from real-world challenges and acquire knowledge that complements their academic training.

The industrial expo continued immediately after the seminar at the forecourt of the University, where several companies exhibited their products, offering students a unique opportunity to network with industry professionals, explore cutting-edge technologies and gain insights into innovative products and services.
