A delegation from the African Methodist Episcopal University in Liberia, led by the President, Rev. Dr. Alvin E. Attah, has paid a courtesy call on the Management of GCTU on Thursday, 25th April 2024.

The purpose of the visit was to rekindle an existing excellent partnership between the two institutions and to renegotiate the terms of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in April 2017 to run Executive MBA programmes in Oil and Gas Management, Information Systems and Public Administration.

In his opening remarks, Rev. Dr. Attah expressed his profound gratitude to the VC and Management for the good old relationship and underscored the importance of unity and collaboration among African institutions.

“I believe that in the spirit of Pan Africanism, it is important for us to collaborate as Africans, especially as partners in the sub-region,” he observed.

The two parties resolved to make the agreement stronger and enduring

According to him, a collaboration to find solutions to the partnership problems and promote research, student exchanges, faculty exchanges, and so on was their focus. He stressed the need for the African collaboration which would produce mutual independence prospects and cut down on Africa’s dependence on the West.

Responding to Rev. Dr. Attah’s submission, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Emmanuel Ohene Afoakwa, extended his profound gratitude to the A.M.E Team for its visit and the opportunity to rekindle the existing collaboration. He briefed the Team on how GCTU had transitioned from a private institution to a fully-fledged public University through an Act of Parliament in July 2020. “Now we are a fully-fledged University with a specific mandate in the area of ICT. Even though we have that as a mandate, we also have the Business School and other faculty disciplines running alongside,” he said.

Prof. Afoakwa stressed, that GCTU had evolved over the years to become a much stronger University. “We have developed a number of programmes that have received accreditation namely, MSc. and Mphil in Internet of Things, Big Data, etc. and our PhD programmes that we can collaborate as well. We are ready to work with you closely to establish a better relationship,” he said.
