GCTU Equips shs Graduates With Graphic Designing Skills

Participants were awarded certificates of participation after the completion of the programme.

GCTU has successfully equipped twelve (12) SHS graduates with practical graphic designing skills through an intensive training programme, which commenced on October 20, 2025, and concluded on November 12, 2025, at the Forensic Laboratory, GCTU.

The four-week training was designed to provide participants with hands-on experience in digital creativity, preparing them for the growing opportunities in digital media and creative design. Throughout the programme, trainees learned to navigate Photoshop and Illustrator efficiently, performed professional photo edits and manipulations and designed brand materials for application on various mockups.

They were also guided on exporting design files for both print and digital media, as well as on how to incorporate Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools into their creative processes, a move that encourages originality and reduces overreliance on online photo resources.

In her opening address on behalf of the Director for CSBPD, an Assistant Registrar, Ms. Cynthia Ampadu-Boateng, noted that in today’s highly competitive marketplace, graphic design is increasingly dominating the business world. She highlighted that as GCTU is the best IT University in Ghana, participants were privileged to be part of such a transformative initiative. She encouraged them to make the most of the opportunity and the skills they would acquire to build successful futures.

The training was facilitated by GCTU’s Graphic Designer with the University Relations Directorate, Mr. Henry Annan. Addressing participants during the closing ceremony, Mr. Annan encouraged them to make the most of the skills acquired, saying, ”We have empowered you with a skill that will help you make money. This shouldn’t be the end. Wherever you find yourselves and whatever you do, do it wholeheartedly to ensure you succeed.”

In her closing remarks, a Junior Assistant Registrar, Ms. Veronica Agbugblah, who spoke on behalf of Management and the Director of CSBPD, congratulated the participants and commended them for their commitment and creativity throughout the training. She encouraged them to sustain their level of creativity and innovation to make a positive impact in their future endeavours.

Participants expressed their appreciation to GCTU for the opportunity, noting that the training had boosted their confidence and inspired them to pursue entrepreneurial ventures in the field of graphic design. “I have been to a lot of places to seek knowledge in IT; this training has been exceptional,” said one of the participants in an interview. Another said, “One month is too small; I wish it were more than that. I have learnt a lot, and I will use the skills I have acquired to assist people with their labels, flyers, menus, complementary cards and the rest if they request.” A third added that she will recommend the training to her friends and colleagues who wish to have this skill.
