GAUA Election – Balloting And Manifesto Presentation Session Held For Candidates
The GCTU Chapter of the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA) has held a balloting and manifesto reading event for candidates vying for positions on the Executive Committee of the Association on June 19, 2024, at the Florence Onny Auditorium, main campus.
The event which is part of activities slated towards the election of new executives for the Association, provided a platform for the candidates vying for various positions to share their visions and programmes for the Association in their manifestos presented at the event.
The Chairman of the event, Rev. Levi Amanor Agbozo, underscored the vital role University Administrators play in the smooth operations and success of the institution’s growth and development. Rev. Agbozo assured the candidates that the Electoral Committee would do due diligence in compiling a credible voters register to promote a free and fair elections.
The Co-chair of the event, Mr. Francis Edjah, who was excited about the contestants’ contributions, emphasized that members ought to focus on two cardinal points: unity and welfare of the Association in selecting new executives to take over the mantle of leadership.
A total of seven candidates filed to contest for positions in five slots namely president, (Dr. Mark Ofori Nketia, Mr. Kwame Owusu-Ansah Afram and Dr. Ahmed Antwi-Boampong), vice-president, (Ms. Fatu Esi Sesay), secretary, assistant secretary, and campus representative. The presidential slot, the most keenly contested position, had three candidates vying to be elected while the candidates for the remaining positions were all to run unopposed.
Outlining the modalities for the elections set to take place on 5th June 2024, the Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Mr. Philip Larry Anguah, confirmed that voting would be done electronically.
He declared the campaigning session open while cautioning decorum and civility by all the candidates and their supporters to ensure free, fair and transparent elections. He lauded the efforts of the Electoral Committee so far for superintending a fair process that had given equal opportunity to all the contestants. He hinted that a proposal for a presidential debate was still under consideration.
