Mission Statement: The Human Resources Department’s mission is to strategically partner with all stakeholders to be a continental role model for attracting and developing experienced, motivated, technology- oriented, disciplined academic and non-academic staff who provide value-added service to the University and society.
Role: The Human Resources Department is responsible for coordinating the development and administration of Human Resource plans, policies and strategies aligned to the University’s strategic direction aimed at achieving the University and employees goals and objectives as well as ensuring compliance with labour laws and corporate social responsibility through:
- Analyzing work processes and recommending improvements where necessary to design jobs and organizational structure
- Managing the planning, acquisition, optimization, motivation, development, relating, communication and exiting the staff
- Managing employee related change and human resource information systems
Specific functions performed include:
- Developing and administration of Human Resource related plans, policies and programmes
- Human Resource Planning
- Recruitment, Selection and Placement
- Orientation, Training and Development
- Performance Management
- Compensation and Benefits
- Employee and Industrial Relations
- Health, Welfare and Safety
- Employee related Change Management
- Managing Human Resource Information Systems
Achievements to Date:
- Development and administration of Human Resources policies, programs and practices
- Establishing leading staffing practices and procedures necessary to recruit and retain an effective workforce.
- Developing and implementing training and development initiatives for capacity building
- Developing and administration of competitive compensation scheme
- Managing HR payroll expenses within budget and timely payment of remuneration
- Ensuring compliance with legislation, eg. the labour law and the National Pensions Scheme
- Establishing a positive employer-employee relationship with non-occurrence of industrial action, i.e. employees strike
- Promoting a high level of employee morale and motivation
- Provision of subsidized cafeteria services to staff members
- Provision of orientation to newly recruited staff
- Employee capacity building through academic partnership, workshops, conferences, and academic programmes
