VC Commissions Refurbished Academic Affairs Directorate And Social Media/marketing Hub

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Emmanuel Ohene Afoakwa, has commissioned the newly refurbished Academic Affairs Directorate and a converted office space into a digital multi-social media and marketing hub on Tuesday, 15th October 2024 at the main campus.

The commissioning of these two projects marks a significant milestone in enhancing staff welfare and institutional development, providing a conducive work environment that fosters administrative efficiency and a dedicated office for social media management and content creation.

In his brief address, Prof. Afoakwa indicated that every office will receive a facelift, ensuring a befitting workspace. “While we cannot renovate all offices within one year, we are committed to gradual phased improvements. Our goal is to provide a conducive work environment, fostering productivity and academic excellence,” he noted. Prof. Afoakwa, on behalf of Management, expressed his heartfelt appreciation to staff for their unwavering support and cooperation throughout the project and the contractor for his exceptional workmanship, professionalism and timely completion of the task.

The Director of Academic Affairs, Dr. Gordon Utuka extended his profound gratitude to the VC and the University Management for their tireless efforts in advancing the institution, stating that the impressive face-lifting of the directorate will significantly enhance staff productivity and well-being. He quoted Matthew 6:21 – “Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also” to buttress the satisfaction which staff of the Directorate will experience in their new environment, ” Dr. Utuka commended the VC’s visionary leadership in investing in infrastructure and ongoing renovation initiatives which he considered as a testament to the VC’s dedication to the institution’s growth and success.

The Managing Director of the contracting firm, Globalcore Solutions Ltd, Mr. Isaac Osei Boateng, expressed his gratitude to GCTU for the opportunity to work on the project and assured the University of their continued support.

The scope of work at the Directorate covered electrical installations (wiring, sockets, air conditioners and fans), painting, installation of a six compartment work station (six in one), curtains, ceiling repairs, provision of tables and chairs.

Giving his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, stressed on the need to have a dedicated space for social media management and content creation, stating that it will enhance or promote academic programmes and sharing of University news and events, engage students, alumni and stakeholders, fostering a sense of community online. Prof. Afoakwa acknowledged and expressed his deep appreciation to the Pro. VC, Prof. Robert Ebo Hinson’s instrumental role and innovative approach to social media integration in recognizing the significant impact it would have on the institution’s digital landscape. “Thanks to the generosity of the Pro Vice-Chancellor and friends; the hub is equipped with brand-new computers,” he said.

The Project Manager of Commadu Lucid Limited, Mr. Ishmael Asare thanked the University’s team for its exemplary supervision and support throughout the project. He expressed optimism for potential future collaborations in subsequent projects.
The scope of work under this segment included installing of glass panels, ceiling repairs, wiring, lighting fittings, air-conditioners, LED-lighted GCTU logo, tiling, installation of curtains and desks.

Earlier, In his remarks, the Director of Works and Physical Development, Surv. Gordon Baapiri, provided a comprehensive briefing on the two projects, underscoring its strategic importance to staff operations, productivity and institutional advancement. He emphasized that the University has assumed responsibility for the projects, when he said, “We have taken possession of the projects, beginning a six-month window for defect reporting and resolution.
