
The National Executives of the Ghana Universities Sports Association (GUSA), led by President Mr. Shaibu Ibrahim Tanko, paid a courtesy call on GCTU on October 18, 2025.
The delegation, which comprised Directors of Sports from various Ghanaian universities, called on the University Management to express their gratitude to GCTU for the opportunity to host their general meeting and for accommodating them.

In his welcome remarks, the Dean of SGSR and the Acting Pro. VC, Prof. Ebenezer Malcalm who received the visitors on behalf of Vice-Chancellor expressed regret that the VC could not meet them due to external obligations. Prof. Malcalm highlighted the significance of sports in nurturing well-rounded students and building a strong sense of camaraderie and shared identity. He further added that, efforts are being made by Management to unearth talents within the University. Prof. Malcalm promised that the University will pay outstanding dues promptly to facilitate the development of sports.

Giving his remarks, the President of GUSA, Mr. Shaibu Ibrahim Tanko extended his gratitude to Management for the residential and facility usage. He commended GCTU for having a dedicated sports directorate, noting that this sets the University apart from other institutions and enhances its reputation. Mr. Tanko stressed, that the Association aims to support emerging universities like GCTU in developing their sports programmes. “Our visit is meant to highlight the value of sports and encourage participation. We are committed to supporting universities in developing sports initiatives that benefit students and the institution,” he said.
In his brief remarks, the Organizing Secretary of GUSA, Dr. Timothy Mensah explained that they have decentralized some responsibilities to smaller universities, ensuring the participation of more institutions and for them to benefit from their general meetings, which are typically held on a rotational basis.

Earlier, the Dean of Students Affairs, Prof. Michael Nana Owusu Akomeah, in the midst of a leadership team, including the Director of Internal Audit, Mr. Kennedy Oppong-Fosu, the Director of Human Resource and Organizational Development, Dr. Emmanuel Adjepong, and the Director of Sports, Dr. Emmanuel Assasie, received the delegation, on behalf the Acting Pro-Vice-Chancellor who had other official duties.
