The maiden National Young Women Leaders Summit brought together young women, educational leaders and development advocates to promote leadership and innovation

The Minister for Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, has called on young women across Ghana to rise confidently into leadership and national development roles, emphasizing that “the Ghana of tomorrow needs your intelligence, creativity and leadership.”

The Minister made the statement in a goodwill message delivered on his behalf by Mr. Isaac Atta-Baah at the maiden edition of the National Young Women Leaders’ Summit held on Friday, June 19, 2026, at GCTU.

The Summit, organized by the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS-GCTU), in collaboration with the Women’s Commission, also featured the official launch of the NUGS Women Podcast by the keynote speaker, Her Excellency Mrs. Samira Bawumia, former Second Lady of the Republic of Ghana.

Addressing participants, the Minister described the Summit as “the beginning of a movement” aimed at inspiring, connecting and empowering female students and young women to become transformational leaders in their institutions, communities and professions.

He noted that education goes beyond academic achievement and must also nurture leadership, confidence, creativity and problem-solving abilities among young people, especially women. “When young women are given opportunities to lead, they become powerful agents of change who contribute significantly to national development,” the message stated.

The Minister further urged young women not to allow societal expectations or stereotypes to limit their aspirations, stressing that leadership begins with vision, courage and the willingness to serve.

A major highlight of the event was the launch of the NUGS Women Podcast, which the Minister described as a timely platform that will amplify authentic voices, create opportunities for dialogue and mentorship and inspire female students across the country.
