GCTU Holds Handing Over Ceremony For New Teaching And Learning Items
On Friday, 14th April 2023, a brief handing over ceremony was conducted to officially receive 20 beautifully crafted wooden lecterns and state-of-the-art microphones to be used in some of our lecture halls. The ceremony, which was conducted at the Forecourt, was attended by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Emmanuel Ohene Afoakwa, and a host of academic and administrative staff, including the Dean of Students, Dr. Michael Nana-Owusu Akomeah, the Director of General Administration and Operations, Dr. Vera Graham Asante, the Dean of the Faculty of Computing and Information Systems, Prof. Kester Quist-Aphetsi, the Ag.Director of Internal Audit, Kennedy Oppong Fosu, the Head of the Centre for Online Learning and Teaching, Dr. Emmanuel Freeman, and the Head of Procurement, Ms. Fatu Esi Sesay.
The programme kicked off as the Dean of Students, Dr. Akomeah, alluded to the significance of this initiative, particularly as it aligns with the Vice-Chancellor’s strategic vision for the University. According to the Dr. Akomeah, “The enhancement of teaching, learning and the student experience is one of the Vice-Chancellor’s dreams, and the delivery of these items are very important in this regard”. He explained that the main purpose of the ceremony was to officially hand over the items to the Director of General Administration and Operations, who would then ensure that they would be appropriately distributed and used for their intended purpose.
Having previously declared 2023 as the year in which a special focus would be placed on the enhancement of the student experience, the Vice-Chancellor was on hand to oversee the handing over ceremony. He reiterated Dr. Akomeah’s sentiments regarding the delivery of the items and their overall importance in the realization of his vision for the institution, while also indicating that there was more to be done. Prof. Afoakwa stated, “It is our vision within this year to significantly enhance teaching, learning and research and this initiative follows on from the 550 tables and chairs which we took delivery of last week. This is not enough however, we still want to do more, because there remain more spaces to fill in the classrooms, including for the new third floor of the Graduate school”.
The Vice-Chancellor then turned his attention to the students who were also present at the event, commending them for their patience and understanding as Management worked to ensure that their critical needs and resources are provided. He stated that based on the evidence of what had already been done to date, they should be confident that more would definitely be on the way.
The programme was brought to close as the Vice-Chancellor officially handed over the items to the Director of General Administration and Operations, Dr. Vera Graham Asante, who, as earlier mentioned, would supervise their distribution and use.
We commend Management for another excellent initiative, and as the Vice-Chancellor stated, there is no doubt that this is yet another forward step in the pursuit of an enhanced teaching, learning and overall student experience.
