Engineering Students’ Association GCTU Chapter Launches Week-long Celebration

The Engineering Students Association (ESA), GCTU Chapter, has launched its annual Engineering Students Week on Monday, 23rd June 2025, at the main campus, Tesano.
The week-long celebration kicked off with the unveiling of “Innov&Fest” under the theme: “Engineering the Future: Powering Innovation,” aimed at deepening students’ understanding of engineering as a tool for national and global development.
In her opening remarks, the Dean, Faculty of Engineering, Dr. Ruhiya Abubakar, warmly welcomed all attendees and emphasized the importance of collaboration between students and industry players in driving engineering innovation and development.
The event featured a series of insightful presentations and interactive discussions led by experts in engineering and telecommunications who shared valuable insights and life-changing experiences. These interactions were designed to empower students to make a difference by “starting small, thinking big, and staying impact-driven.”

Notable speakers included a Telecommunication Engineer and a Lecturer at the University for Professional Studies (UPSA), Ing. Emmanuel Atebawone, a Lecturer at the Faculty of Engineering (GCTU), Ing. Dr. Ibrahim Alhassan Gadel and the CEO, tet.africa, Mr. Prince Okoampah.

In a presentation, Ing. Dr. Gadel said, “The best way to predict the future is to impact IT in engineering; we take it further, we build it”. He encouraged students to engineer the future they want to have by starting small and making an impact, highlighting that students should not see themselves as solutions to engineering, but as engineering impacts.
The programme concluded with a reminder from Mr. Okoampah for students to “be prepared and live ready,” so that when opportunities arise, they can step forward with confidence and boldness.

As a token of appreciation, the Dean and the Engineering Students Association presented citations to the guest speakers for their invaluable contributions to the celebration and their continued commitment to mentoring the next generation of engineers.
The ESA Week celebration will cover the following activities:
Monday (Launch of the programme), Tuesday (Seminar & Exhibition), Wednesday (Association League with Sporty FM), Thursday (Inter-Departmental Hackathon), Friday (Oldies Night with Guinness Ghana & Rep your Jersey), Saturday (Treasure Hunt with the Big Boys), and Sunday (Thanksgiving Service with AFC).
