GCTU through its Centre for Strategic Business and Professional Development (CSBPD), in partnership with Woyeje Media Academy, has successfully graduated its maiden cohort of media trainees on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at the Florence Onny Auditorium.
A total of 38 students were awarded certificates after completing an intensive ten-week programme covering Radio and Television Presentation, News Presentation, Content Production and Disc Jockeying. The event drew proud family members, friends, facilitators and members of the University Community, who gathered to celebrate the achievements of the graduands.
In her opening remarks, Mrs. Araba Hackman Akanji, Director of CSBPD, underscored the importance of the initiative within GCTU’s broader vision of becoming an entrepreneurial and industry-responsive institution. She noted that the programme reflects the University’s commitment to equipping individuals with practical, market-relevant skills while fostering strong industry collaborations.

The proprietor of Woyeje Media Academy, Mrs. Harey Adjoa Owusu Kusi, highlighted the academy’s mission to bridge the gap between theory and practice in media training. She emphasized that the programme was designed to nurture talent, build confidence and prepare participants to thrive in the dynamic media landscape. Drawing from her own career journey, she encouraged graduands to pursue authenticity, professionalism and impactful storytelling.

Delivering the keynote address, Reynold Empeh, a popular media personality also known as Kwame B, urged graduates to seize opportunities and “remain prepared at all times.” Sharing personal experiences from his early days in radio, he stressed the importance of readiness, continuous learning and professionalism. He advised aspiring media practitioners to value research, adapt to evolving technologies and use their platforms responsibly. “Go out there and make us proud,” he charged, reminding graduates to uphold integrity and avoid sensationalism in their work.
Guest speaker Lawrence Nana Asiamah Hanson also known as Bullgod, reinforced the need for resilience and ethical conduct in the media industry. He described the graduation not as an endpoint but a “launch pad” into a competitive and demanding professional space. Encouraging graduates to develop mental toughness, he noted that challenges are inevitable but essential for growth. He further advised them to leverage their skills to create independent opportunities, emphasizing that modern media practitioners can build their own brands and platforms.

The ceremony also recognized outstanding students for their exceptional performance. Mr. Edward William Adu Yeboah was adjudged Best Student DJ, while Mr. Michael Uche received the Best Journalism Student award. The Overall Best Student award went to Nhyira Boateng, and the class representative was honoured as Best Able Class Representative.
In her closing remarks, Mrs. Akanji commended the graduates for their discipline and resilience throughout the programme. She reminded them that their certificates mark the beginning of a continuous journey of professional growth and impact. “The media industry requires not only skill but creativity, consistency and integrity,” she stated, urging graduates to use their voices responsibly and strive for excellence.
The graduation ceremony marked a significant milestone in the University’s drive toward industry-focused professional training.
