GCTU has achieved a remarkable milestone by matriculating a record-breaking 5,128 fresh students on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at the University’s main campus forecourt in Tesano.
The matriculation ceremony marked the beginning of an exciting journey for the new students, who will have access to state-of-the-art facilities, experienced faculty and a supportive community as the institution continues to grow and evolve.
In his address, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Emmanuel Ohene Afoakwa, highlighted GCTU’s role as a beacon of innovation and excellence in ICT education in Ghana, reaffirming the institution’s commitment to providing top-tier education in the field. He emphasized that GCTU, as a hub for ICT education, is poised to play a crucial role in Ghana’s digital transformation by supporting government efforts to enhance ICT literacy and innovation.
“GCTU stands as a beacon of innovation and excellence in ICT education. Mandated by law to train the next generation of ICT professionals, this University is more than an academic institution. It is a hub of knowledge, innovation and boundless opportunities,” Prof. Afoakwa stated.

The VC highlighted the University’s physical and infrastructural expansion, mentioning both completed and ongoing projects. The completed projects include a Multi-Purpose Sports Complex and the renovation of the ultra-modern Main Campus Library.
Ongoing developments consist of an 8-storey Lecture Hall and Offices Complex, a 7-storey extension of the School of Graduate Studies and Research, and an 8-storey Hostel Accommodation under the Build, Operate, Transfer, and Payback System. Additionally, a New Students Study Bay is under construction, along with the renovation of the Abeka Campus Library.
A Level 100 Engineering student, Nana Kwabina Ofusu-Danso, delivered an inspiring expectations speech on behalf of the February 2025 matriculating class. He highlighted key principles for success, including discipline, perseverance, strong ethics, clear vision, goal-setting, prioritizing studies, skills development and avoiding procrastination.
He urged his peers to strive for excellence by seizing opportunities, building networks with friends and mentors and using creativity and innovation to tackle real-world challenges. Acknowledging that true success comes from God, he encouraged students to seek divine guidance in all their endeavours. He concluded with Nelson Mandela’s quote, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world” and called on Management, faculty and staff for support in helping students to thrive on campus and complete their programmes.
