
The Faculty of Engineering (FOE), in collaboration with the Engineering Students Association (ESA) has organized a seminar and exhibition to commemorate the World Engineering Day for Sustainable Development on March 4, 2026, at the Florence Onny Auditorium.
Speaking at the event, the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ebenezer Malcalm, welcomed participants on behalf of the University Management and expressed admiration for Engineers and their significant contributions to global innovation and development. He encouraged students to work diligently and cultivate strong problem-solving skills to excel in their respective career paths. Prof. Malcalm emphasized, that GCTU aims to become one of the top-notch universities producing highly-skilled and professional Engineers in Ghana and across the world.

A Guest Speaker and Chief Executive Officer of Proxima Synergy, Ing. McCoy Kpadey, encouraged students to embrace creativity and develop innovative solutions to contemporary challenges rather than relying solely on existing ideas. He noted that Engineering forms the foundation of innovation and urged students to see themselves as problem-solvers and innovators rather than merely job seekers.

A representative of Soko Aerial Robotics and also a Guest Speaker, Mr. Maximus Ashitey, noted that digital innovations are rapidly transforming lives, with Engineering evolving from traditional mechanical systems into intelligent ecosystems. He emphasized that the future of Engineering in Ghana must adopt digital and systems-oriented approaches, as global competitiveness will increasingly be determined by technical capabilities rather than raw materials.

Also speaking at the event, a Sales Engineering Manager at The Automation Ghana Group (TAGG) and a Guest Speaker, Mr. Emmanuel Mawuko Kusorgbor, highlighted, that Engineering is no longer only about designing systems, but also about building capacity, resilience and national advantage. He encouraged participants to prioritize discipline, competence, integrity, creative thinking and innovation in their professional development.

The Head of Consumer Data Analytics and Marketing Intelligence at Ghana Petroleum Authority, Mr. Johnson Gbagbo Jnr. underscored the need for Engineers to uphold the highest standards of ethics, safety and accountability. According to him, “Engineering is a strategic national asset, and countries that have advanced economically have done so through deliberate investment in Engineering and technological capabilities.” He further encouraged students to remain committed to excellence and continuous learning.

Goodwill messages were also presented by representatives of the Ghana Institute of Engineers and the World Health and Safety Organization.
The event concluded with the presentation of citations by the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Ruhiya Abubakar, in honour of the Commissioner-General of the Ghana Boundary Commission, Anthony Ntem and Samuel Norte Nortey, for their unwavering support to the faculty and the University.

The Day also witnessed an exhibition of student innovations, bringing together faculty members, students and distinguished guests. The exhibition session underscored the transformative role of Engineering in addressing global challenges and advancing sustainable development.
