GCTU Alumni Association Launched And New Logo Unveiled
The GCTU Alumni Association was officially launched with a memorable ceremony, featuring the unveiling of its new logo, at the Great Hall, Main Campus, on Saturday, September 21, 2024.
The event marked a significant milestone in the University’s history, bringing together esteemed alumni from all walks of life, creating a shared identity and sense of belonging, establishing a distinctive visual representation and igniting school spirit and loyalty.
Speaking at the event, the Pro. Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Robert Ebo Hinson, who represented the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Emmanuel Ohene Afoakwa, highlighted the vital role which university alumni play in driving progress. He emphasized that alumni are essential for fundraising, marketing, and financial resource mobilization, particularly when they have a strong emotional connection to their alma mater. This connection, he said, is crucial, as it encourages alumni to give back and recommend their university to others.
Prof. Hinson emphasized the critical role of cultivating alumni relationships, beginning as early as the inquiry stage. He explained that by delivering an outstanding student experience and nurturing a strong emotional bond, universities can fully leverage the potential of their alumni networks. Drawing from his insightful article, The Two Rs: Reconnect and Reignite, Prof. Hinson discussed how these strategies are essential for revitalizing alumni associations. He argued that these two key elements are vital for fostering meaningful relationships, enhancing engagement, and promoting lifelong connections among alumni.
Giving her remarks, the Director of University Relations, Dr. Nusrat-Jahan Abubakar, noted that the official launch of the association and the unveiling of the new logo marked a new chapter for GCTU, solidifying its identity and symbolizing its values.
“This milestone is a testament to our collective perseverance and shared vision. Despite the challenges, our enthusiasm and resilience have made this dream a reality. Today, as we unveil this logo, let it symbolize our collective strength, humility, and unity,” she added.
The President of the GCTU Alumni Association, Ms. Magdalene Lamptey, said that the future of the Association holds immense promise and with unwavering dedication, they will collectively turn that promise into reality, driving growth, connection and impact. “Today, we embark on a new chapter in our alumni journey.
Let us embrace this opportunity with enthusiasm, unity and a shared sense of purpose,” she indicated. Ms. Lamptey was thrilled to announce that the Association has now been officially registered with the Registrar-General Department. This, she said was a crucial step to validating the commitment towards establishing a formal and effective network that will serve as a beacon of support and unity among the alumni.
She highlighted key challenges facing the Association, indicating that in their forward movement, the focus will be on addressing critical areas including ensuring long-term viability, robust structures, establishing effective governance and operations, diverse alumni engagement, fostering inclusive participation and securing necessary resources to support activities of the Association.
Ms. Lamptey, on behalf of the executives, extended her deepest gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor for his generous support for the Association by donating seed money to support the growth and operations of the Association, paving the way for a brighter future.
Earlier, in his remarks, the Immediate Past President of the Association, Ing.
