GCTU Shines at 2026 Mini GUSA Games with Gold and Bronze

GCTU has once again demonstrated its growing strength in university sports after an impressive performance at the 2026 Mini GUSA Games held at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) from 5th to 15th May 2026.

GCTU was represented in the competition by a delegation of 31 participants, made up of 24 approved athletes and officials and 7 volunteer participants. The University competed in Football, 3×3 Basketball, Table Tennis, Badminton and Athletics, displaying determination, teamwork, resilience and sportsmanship throughout the tournament.

In football, the GCTU team showed strong fighting spirit and competitive play but narrowly missed qualification beyond the group stages. Similarly, the University’s 3×3 basketball team delivered a commendable performance despite falling short of progressing to the next round.

The University, however, achieved remarkable success in the racket games. Emmanuella Yaa Kyere emerged as a star performer after winning a gold medal in the female Table Tennis category. Her outstanding display of skill, discipline and consistency earned GCTU its highest achievement at the games.

In female tennis, Linda Sedinam Henodzi also made the University proud by securing a bronze medal following an impressive performance throughout the competition.

GCTU further recorded a strong showing in badminton, finishing fourth overall and narrowly missing out on a medal position. In athletics, the University participated in the 200 metres race, where the athlete finished fourth in the heats, demonstrating promising potential for future competitions.

Overall, GCTU’s participation in the 2026 Mini GUSA Games reflects the University’s growing commitment to sports development and student athletics. The performance marks a significant improvement from the previous competition, where GCTU secured only a bronze medal and placed eighth on the medal table.

This year, the University climbed to sixth place on the medal table, winning one gold medal and one bronze medal, a clear indication of progress and the immense potential of GCTU athletes to achieve even greater success in future competitions.
