GCTU Commissions State-of-the-Art Computer Lab To Enhance Student Learning Experience

GCTU has proudly commissioned a cutting-edge computer lab, a pioneering project led by the Association of Computing Students (ACS) under the leadership of its president, Mr. Louis Kwaku Aryee.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Emmanuel Ohene Afoakwa, who cut the tape to commission the facility, expressed his gratitude for being given the opportunity to commission the project, which was realized through the efforts of the Association of Computing Students (ACS) led by the president, Mr. Louis Kwaku Aryee and his executives. Prof. Afoakwa congratulated the Dean of FoCIS and the ACS President for their dedication and successful completion of the project.

He commended the students for their patriotism and commitment to improving GCTU and urged the student body and faculty to “contribute in any way possible to the university’s growth.” The VC pledged his full support in providing more world-class labs to elevate the quality of teaching and the University’s image.

The Dean of FoCIS, Dr. Brown-Acquaye, had earlier explained the purpose of the gathering: to commission a first-of-its-kind, fully modern, and functioning computer lab designed to enable students to practice and enhance their skills. He revealed plans for a second lab dedicated to Networking and the Internet of Things (IoT), aimed at advancing student training and education in these crucial areas.

The President of the ACS, Mr. Aryee, expressed his heartfelt thanks to the Vice-Chancellor and the various staff members for attending the commissioning. He also extended his gratitude to Dr. Brown-Acquaye and the Dean of Student Affairs, Prof. Michael Owusu Akomeah, for their unwavering support of the association. Mr. Aryee emphasized that this project would not have been possible without their involvement and dedication. He assured attendees that this was just the beginning and announced plans for a second lab to further enhance students’ computing skills.

The President also highlighted security improvements, including the installation of 24/7 camera surveillance on the FoCIS Block C. He concluded by thanking the Vice-Chancellor for the opportunity to pursue his postgraduate studies (Masters/PhD) on a full scholarship, fulfilling his dream of becoming a reputable lecturer at GCTU.

This remarkable event was graced by prominent university officials and dignitaries, including the Dean of Students, Prof. Michael Nana Owusu-Akomeah, Director of University Relations, Dr. Nusrat-Jahan Abubakar, various Professors, the Head of the Computer Science Department Dr. Emmanuel Freeman, University Chaplain, Dr. Michael Owusu Tabiri, Faculty Officer (FoCIS), Ms. Magdalene Lamptey and the executives of ACS among others.
