Student leaders and Resource Persons cutting a cake to launch the week-long celebration

The Student Representative Council (SRC) of GCTU has officially welcomed fresh students recently enrolled into the University for the 2024/25 academic year with the launch of the “Akwaaba Week” on February 17, 2025.

This year’s “Akwaaba Week” celebration which started with a seminar on the theme “The Mindshift” is designed to help freshers settle into campus life, through engaging activities, networking opportunities and entertainment, fostering a sense of community and belonging.

In a brief remark, An Assistant Registrar representing the Office of the Dean of Students, Mrs. Racheal Opoku, welcomed all fresh students on behalf of the Dean and encouraged them to actively participate in the celebration to enhance their campus experience.

Delivering his welcome address at the “Mindshift” seminar, the SRC General Secretary, Mr. Kingsley Boaben said that the week-long programme is dedicated to integrating new students into the GCTU family and ensuring that every student feels at home, supported and inspired.

He indicated that the activities for the week form a crucial part of the University experience to foster connection, learning and personal growth.  He also noted that university life is not solely about academics but also about transforming how students think, communicate and seize opportunities.

The participants at the seminar

Students were privileged to listen to distinguished guests from various fields, including entertainment, entrepreneurship, leadership and technology, who shared their ideas and experiences. Their motivational messages aimed at empowering the students and equipping them with the mindset needed for success in their academic and professional journeys.

As part of the event, a team from Cross Mark Marketing, a partner of the SRC, was given the opportunity to introduce students to its activities, offering insights into potential collaborations and opportunities.

The SRC encourages freshers to actively engage in the “Akwaaba Week” celebration, as it serves as a foundation for both academic and personal growth at GCTU.
