Hon. Patrick Yaw Boamah Sponsors 350 Participants For Training At GCTU
GCTU’s Centre for Strategic Business and Professional Development (CSBPD) commemorated the start of yet another of its dynamic training programmes with a vibrant opening ceremony held at the University’s Great Hall.
The event, which took place on Monday, 5th June 2023, was well attended by the 350 registered participants who demonstrated their burgeoning enthusiasm at the prospect of benefitting from the training programme. Centred on skills development for the youth, the training programme is all the more unique in that it has been single-handedly sponsored by none other than Hon. Patrick Yaw Boamah, the Member of Parliament for the Okaikwei Central Constituency in Accra. In a magnanimous show of philanthropic initiative, the MP has taken it upon himself to bear the full cost of the 3–5-week training (dependent on the specific programme) for each of the 350 participants, presenting them with an excellent chance to benefit from the expertise of the seasoned training facilitators.
Speaking in his capacity as the Chair of the event, the Pro Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Robert Ebo Hinson, delivered a stirring address to the participants, congratulating them and also reminding them of the significant opportunity that lay ahead of them. He encouraged them to make the most of the training by applying themselves wholeheartedly to the programme and assured them that by taking part in the training, they would be putting themselves in a uniquely advantageous position. Finally, he concluded his address by alluding to the Honourable MP’s wonderful gesture, thanking him for showing such passion and dedication to the development of the youth.
Prof. Stephen Asunka, the Director for ICT at GCTU, was also present at the event, and he took the opportunity to address the participants, giving them an insight into the potential impact they could make after undergoing such a training. He asserted that not only would they have the opportunity to develop themselves, but they would also be in a prime position to contribute to the development of their constituency, and by extension, the country as a whole. He urged them to bear in mind that the onus would be on them in terms of capitalizing on what their facilitators would be teaching them, encouraging them to take full responsibility for their studies in general.
As the Keynote speaker for the programme, Hon. Patrick Yaw Boamah also took to the stage to deliver his message to the participants. He spoke of his desire to inspire development among the youth, citing it as one of the central reasons for deciding to sponsor them for training. He emphasized the importance of their diligence and commitment, advising them that they should make the most of such an exclusive and rare opportunity. He also thanked GCTU, in particular the Director of the CSBPD, Mrs. Araba Hackman Akanji, and her team for their hard work and initiative in developing such a valuable training programme.
Mrs. Akanji, who, along with her team has spearheaded the organization of the training programme, extended her best wishes to the participants. She echoed the Honourable MP’s sentiments regarding the unique opportunity they had been presented with, before reminding them that, while their facilitators would be providing them with the knowledge and skills in their various areas of interest, the responsibility to utilize them and achieve success is solely theirs. She finally brought the ceremony to a close, thanking the Honourable MP for gracing the event with his presence and paying tribute to his admirable selflessness in sponsoring the training.
Overall, the event was hugely successful, setting the tone for what will undoubtedly be a massively productive and beneficial programme for the participants. On behalf of Management and the CSBPD, we extend our heartfelt appreciation to Hon. Patrick Yaw Boamah for his remarkable and generous initiative. We wish the participants all the very best and we look forward to seeing them contribute to the development of the constituency and the nation in the near future.
