Students Interact With Faculty Management

It was a very lively and interactive session at the Florence Onny Auditorium

Students of GCTU have had an opportunity to interact with their faculty/school management and staff at an open forum held on March 18, 2024.

The session, which took place at the Florence Onny Auditorium on the main campus at Tesano, provided students the chance to meet face-to-face for a fruitful engagement with Deans, Heads of Department and staff on matters pertaining to life on campus and academics.

Speaking at the event, the Pro Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Robert Ebo Hinson, expressed his profound gratitude to the students for attending the event and congratulated the Office of the Dean of Students Affairs for putting the event together. “This forum, feel free, ask questions, give suggestions, tell us how we can treat you better,” he said.

Prof. Hinson indicated, that acquiring soft skills, showing respect and humility are very potent tools for accelerating progress in life. He bemoaned the late start of events and urged students to be time conscious. He said, “I am appealing to you, if there is one thing that will change your life after this forum, it is honouring time and making sure that every single minute is judiciously used.”

The Dean of Students Affairs, Dr. Akomeah, opening the session

Earlier in his opening remarks, the Dean of Students Affairs, Dr. Michael Nana Owusu-Akomeah, extended his profound appreciation to the students for attending the event in their numbers. He noted, that feedback is essential in shaping any institution/organization. “We are here to listen to your thoughts, ideas and what is bothering you from academics to campus life; the kind of things you expect Management to do for you,” he said.

During the open-floor discussion, students were invited to table their grievances, concerns and challenges relating to their academics and general welfare. It was an action-packed session as the students took turns to table their issues.

The issues raised ranged from lack of clarity regarding the publication of results, limited waiting or study areas for students, slow internet connectivity on campus, important events clashing with lectures and limited hostels, among others.

Deans and Directors were on hand to deal with students’ issues

Several of the students’ concerns were instantaneously dealt with by Deans, HoDs and Staff from the various Faculties and Departments at the forum while assurances were given for further action to be taken on others. In general, the forum was successful, with students welcoming the apparent and genuine willingness to have their issues resolved.

In his closing remarks, the SRC President, Mr. Harrison Amoako, expressed his appreciation to the Office of the Dean of Students Affairs for organizing the event and thanked all the participants for attending the programme. “Thank you for making it possible for the students to voice out their grievances. We hope next semester, you will organize more of such programmes,” he said.
