
The Chairman of the GCTU Governing Council, Ing. Divine D. K. Kpetigo, has charged the Pro Vice-Chancellor Search Committee Members to conduct a thorough, fair and transparent process in selecting a suitable candidate for appointment to the position of Pro Vice-Chancellor.
The Council Chairman made the remark during the inauguration of a Seven-Member Search Committee in a ceremony held on 20th January 2026.

Performing the inauguration, the Chairman of the GCTU Governing Council, Ing. Divine Kpetigo, underscored the strategic importance of the assignment and charged the Committee to uphold the highest standards of merit, integrity, equity and confidentiality in the discharge of its mandate. He noted that the position of Pro Vice-Chancellor, which became vacant on 1st May 2025, is central to the University’s academic and administrative leadership and therefore requires a candidate with strong academic credentials, proven leadership capacity and a deep commitment to the vision and values of GCTU.

Ing. Kpetigo commended the Vice-Chancellor for the interim appointment of an Acting Pro Vice-Chancellor that has ensured continuity and stability during the period the University operated without a Governing Council. He explained that the inauguration of the Search Committee marks a critical step towards regularising the appointment in line with the GCTU Act and Statutes. He further assured the Committee of Council’s confidence in their professionalism and independence of mind and pledged the necessary administrative and logistical support to facilitate their work.
Earlier, the Registrar, Mr. Emmanuel Baidoo, outlined the basis and composition of the Search Committee in accordance with Schedule “G” Section 5 of the Basic Laws of GCTU. He announced that the Committee is chaired by Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Addo Obeng, a former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast and a Reverend Minister of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana. Other members include Prof. Augustina Akonnor and Mrs. Mavis Asare Donkor, representing Council; Prof. Emmanuel Ohene Afoakwa, Vice-Chancellor of GCTU; Dr. Samuel Kingsford Seglah and Dr. Godwin Utuka, elected by the Academic Board; and Prof. Dominic Otoo as a co-opted member. The Registrar serves as Secretary to the Committee.

In his acceptance speech, Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Addo Obeng expressed gratitude to the Governing Council for the confidence reposed in the Committee members. He assured Council and the University Community of the Committee’s commitment to selecting a candidate of high merit and integrity who will effectively support the Vice-Chancellor in advancing GCTU’s mission. He particularly emphasized the need for strict confidentiality throughout the process to protect the integrity of the University and the credibility of the exercise.
Supporting remarks from members of the Committee and Management echoed a shared resolve to uphold confidentiality, professionalism and diligence. The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Emmanuel Ohene Afoakwa reaffirmed Management’s readiness to provide full administrative and logistical support to ensure a smooth and timely process.
