
The Faculty of Engineering’s (FOE) level 200 team has emerged as champions, defeating the Faculty of Computing and Information Systems (FoCIS) level 200 team in the finals of the GCTU Inter-Faculty Football Tournament, held at the University’s Sports Complex from 10th to 11th July 2025.
The thrilling two-day event, organized by the Sports Directorate of GCTU, brought together students from various faculties, aimed at promoting unity, health and wellbeing among students. The event also provided a platform to unearth and celebrate sporting talents among students through friendly competitions.

The tournament featured teams from the Faculty of Computing and Information Systems, Faculty of Engineering and GCTU Business School, with participants from all levels competing against each other.
In the battle for third place, the FoCIS Level 400 team emerged victorious, beating their fellow faculty team, FoCIS Level 300.

Speaking at the event, the Acting Pro. Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ebenezer Malcalm, on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Emmanuel Ohene Afoakwa, expressed his excitement about the tournament and extended his profound gratitude to the participants for their enthusiasm and contributions to the success of the event. “I have been told this tournament serves as a selection platform for the upcoming tournament in October 2025. Take your training seriously and make GCTU proud,” Prof. Malcalm indicated.

Giving his remarks, the Director of Sports, Dr. Emmanuel Yaw Assasie, stressed that the tournament is to identify, nurture and develop the talent of students, while also promoting teamwork, sportsmanship and healthy competition among students.

Earlier, the Dean of Student Affairs, Prof. Michael Nana Owusu-Akomeah, extended his gratitude to the Sports Directorate for organizing the tournament, noting that it not only provides entertainment but also serves as a platform to identify and nurture talent within the University, fostering unity among students. “This tournament is an opportunity to harness talents for the University; play to your maximum best for you never know who is watching you,” Prof. Owusu-Akomeah emphasized.
In a post-tournament interview, the Coach and Captain of the Faculty of Engineering’s level 200 team, Ismael Chalpang Nii Amon Kotta, revealed that they were initially uncertain about their chances due to limited training but their determination and teamwork ultimately paid off. He gave glory to God for the team’s success.
