The Engineering Students’ Association (ESA), GCTU Chapter, has launched its annual Engineering Students’ Week Festival and Women in Engineering, on Monday, July 27, 2026, at the Silicon Valley Auditorium.
The week-long celebration was held under the theme, “Driving Innovation, Inspiring Leadership and Accelerating National Development” with a focus on “Engineering Ghana’s Digital Future.”
The festival aims to deepen students’ understanding of engineering as a tool for national development while encouraging them to embrace leadership and innovation.
Delivering the keynote address, the Dean of Faculty of Engineering, Dr. Ruhiya Abubakar, warmly welcomed attendees and highlighted the importance of collaboration between students and industry players in advancing national development.
Dr. Abubakar also underscored the role of innovation in national progress and encouraged students to develop innovative solutions to societal challenges, lead with integrity and contribute meaningfully to national development.
The President of the ESA, Daniel Bentil, urged students to listen attentively, ask questions and actively participate in the activities. He encouraged them to consider the impact they can make beyond the lecture halls, challenge themselves to think creatively, lead courageously and embrace innovation as a tool for national development.
The launch also featured a series of panel discussions on the topic, “Engineering Ghana’s Digital Future”. The panelists included Solutions Architect at Telecel Ghana, Ms. Georgia Agyekum, Lecturer and Machine Learning Expert and IT Consultant, Dr. Isaac Nyantakyi and GCTU Computer Engineering undergraduate, Elikplim Nyahe.
The festival is expected to provide students with opportunities to engage industry professionals, explore emerging trends in engineering and technology and develop ideas that can contribute to Ghana’s digital transformation.
The week-long celebration featured a series of engaging and impactful activities: Monday (Launch of the programme), Tuesday (Safety Symposium), Wednesday (Career fair/Hackathon), Thursday (End Right Seminar and E-Sports / Virtual Games) and Friday (Sports Day).
