
The Office of the Dean of Students, in collaboration with National Academy of Students Achievement Awards (NASAAG), has empowered GCTU Students and Staff with knowledge on Insurance, Financial Security and Entrepreneurship at a seminar held on May 19, 2026, at the Florence Onny Auditorium, Tesano Campus.
The seminar formed part of efforts to equip students with practical career development skills, financial literacy and entrepreneurial knowledge to better prepare them for the job market and future opportunities.

In her brief speech delivered at the seminar, the Head of Career Development under the Office of the Dean of Students, Mrs. Joyce Frances Acquah noted, that the seminar was designed, not only as an academic engagement, but also as a platform for networking and career preparation. She encouraged participants to actively engage in the discussions, ask meaningful questions and interact with the speakers to maximize the benefits of the seminar.

Presenting his keynote address, the Executive Director of NASAAG, Mr. Riffath Yakubu Abubakar, gave an overview of the organization and highlighted some of its flagship programmes aimed at supporting students’ professional growth.
He encouraged students to register for NASAAG programmes to benefit from mentorship opportunities, career guidance and job market preparation initiatives.
He further urged students to take advantage of the organization’s work experience programme, which provides internship placement opportunities to help students gain practical industry exposure before graduation.

The Founder and Financial Stewardship Trainer, Ms. Samuella Baah, also took the stage to engage students in an insightful session on financial literacy and personal financial management. In her presentation, she emphasized the importance of financial discipline and responsible money management, stating that, “Money is not everything, but money affects everything. The secret to financial security is not having more and more money, but really knowing what to do with the money you have.”
She educated participants on various investment and savings options and encouraged students to cultivate good financial habits early in life. She further advised students to track their spending, develop a consistent savings culture and build emergency funds to secure their future against unexpected financial challenges.

Among the speakers was the Head of Retail and Personal Lines at GLICO General, Mr. Christian Kwesi Amenigye, who educated participants on the various types of insurance packages and their benefits. He highlighted the importance of insurance coverage and the need for individuals to prepare adequately for unforeseen financial emergencies.
He further encouraged participants to consider personal accident insurance as part of their financial security plans, stressing that having the right insurance coverage can provide financial protection and peace of mind during difficult situations.

The Chief Executive Officer of Profa Foods, Mr. Akuffo Prince, concluded the seminar by sharing his entrepreneurial journey and the challenges he encountered while building his business. Drawing from his personal experiences, he encouraged participants to remain resilient and innovative in the face of business challenges and implement new strategies to overcome obstacles. He also advised aspiring entrepreneurs to set clear future goals and develop practical plans for business growth and expansion.

The seminar brought together students and staff from different faculties and departments, providing participants with valuable insights into financial security, entrepreneurship and career advancement.
