Ghana Gas Delegation Pays Courtesy Call On GCTU
On Wednesday, August 22, 2024, the Ghana National Gas Company Ltd paid a courtesy call on GCTU to express its appreciation and recognition for the University’s consistent participation in the annual Gas Challenge competition.
The visit was also an opportunity to effectively engage and gain valuable feedback and insights from participating institutions, helping to refine the competition and improve its relevance to the target audience.
Speaking at the meeting, the Dean of the School of Graduate Studies and Research, Prof. Ebenezer Malcalm, on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Emmanuel Ohene Afoakwa, extended a warm welcome to the team. “We are excited you are here to give us the road map for the competition. We are poised for action and ready to make a significant impact, with our sights set on winning the competition. I will share the roadmap with Management and the innovation you have in store for us this year,” he emphasized.
Giving her remarks, the Assistant Manager of the Governance Relations Unit of Ghana Gas, Mrs. Sophia Kwakye-Marfo on behalf of the CEO, Dr. Ben K.D. Asante and the Chairperson of the planning committee, Mrs. Augustina Asare Osei expressed her heartfelt gratitude to GCTU for its consistent participation in the annual Gas Challenge competition. “We extend our appreciation to GCTU for the warm reception.
You have been very supportive from day one and we do not take it lightly. We know the relationship we are building will be strong beyond the competition and into other areas. We strive to remain impartial to uphold the integrity of the company and the competition, which is what we stand for. This year, we promise to make it an exciting competition and we look forward to seeing what GCTU has in store,” she said.
The Dean of the Engineering Faculty and the GCTU team lead coach, Dr. Ruhiya Abubakar, was thrilled by the company’s kind gesture to support and recognize students’ efforts in developing their technical and engineering skills. “This competition undoubtedly inspires a passion for technology and innovation in students.
Gone are the days when new universities didn’t participate in competitions like this. Now, GCTU is thriving and we are committed to this course because it’s close to our hearts. We are re-strategizing to improve on our previous performances,” she indicated.
Earlier, An Officer of the Governance Relations Unit, of Ghana Gas, Mr. Kofi Sekyere Mensah Bonsu delivered a presentation on the 2024 Gas Challenge. He highlighted the benefits of the competition for participating institutions, noting that it fosters academic excellence, enhances curriculum, increases visibility, industry connections, and improves infrastructure.
According to him, the competition has benefited students’ skills development, practical experience, career opportunities, academic motivation, networking and recognition over the past five years. Mr. Mensah Bonsu noted that twelve tertiary institutions have been selected to participate in this year’s competition.
Launched in 2019, the Gas Challenge has revolutionized the petroleum sector’s academic landscape. This quiz-based competition, hosted by the Ghana National Gas Company (GNGC) for tertiary institutions across Ghana, aims to enhance practical knowledge and bridge the academia-industry gap. As it celebrates its 5th anniversary, the Gas Challenge proudly showcases its profound impact on participating institutions since its inception.
At last year’s challenge, the GCTU team made it to the semi-final stage.
