New 8-storey Building MoU Signed
GCTU and ASIB Construction Ltd. have signed an MoU for the construction of a state-of-the-art 8-storey building on the main campus of the University on Friday, 10th November 2023.
The signing ceremony marked a significant milestone in the University’s efforts to vigorously address its infrastructural challenges engendered by the increasing student and staff numbers. The 8-storey structure is slated to house lecture halls and offices.
Speaking at the event, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Emmanuel Ohene Afoakwa, welcomed the ASIB Construction team and highlighted the University’s commitment to quality construction work, emphasizing the significance of the new partnership.
The CEO of ASIB Construction Ltd, Mr. Kwaku Osei Asibey, reciprocated the enthusiasm and considered the MoU as a privilege to do business with GCTU. He expressed his company’s dedication to delivering quality work, citing it as the foundation for future collaborations. He stated, “Our hallmark is quality work as a building construction company. And so, this is just the beginning, because we haven’t worked for this institution before.”
Prof. Emmanuel Ohene Afoakwa expressed confidence in ASIB Construction’s ability to deliver timely and high-quality work. He acknowledged the challenges in construction projects, particularly in relation to finances, and reassured the company that the University would meet its financial obligations promptly. The Vice-Chancellor also shared insights into the funding mechanism, mentioning that the project would be undertaken with Internally Generated Funds (IGF).
“We are in dire need of infrastructure – lecture halls and offices. So, as we said, we have a number of them we’re going to build around the campus. So, today is the first one and we believe that as we work with you to finish this on time, there will be more opportunities for future collaboration,” Prof. Emmanuel Ohene Afoakwa added.
The ceremony was graced by the Registrar, Mr. Emmanuel Baidoo, Director of University Relations, Dr. Nusrat-Jahan Abubakar and Head of Procurement, Ms. Fatu Esi Sesay on the part of GCTU. Mr. Henry Kakrah Ahinful and Mr. Augustine Amankwa were part of the ASIB Ltd delegation.
As construction commences, the GCTU Community eagerly looks forward to the realization of this vital infrastructure project, marking the beginning of many state-of-the-art projects in the coming years.
