GCTU has received a major boost to its hands-on training capabilities following the donation of four internet servers by LMI-DIGITAL, on Tuesday, May 7, 2025.
The donation aims to enhance practical learning for students in the fields of Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, and Cybersecurity.

Both parties were upbeat about the prospects of the collaboration

Receiving the donation on behalf of the University, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Emmanuel Ohene Afoakwa expressed his gratitude and reaffirmed the University’s commitment to expanding its laboratory infrastructure to maximise the benefit of such support.

Prof. Afoakwa showed gratitude for the support and outlined the University’s plans for expanded lab infrastructure.

“We are trying as much as possible to set up new labs, so we’re going to break up this place to make room,” Prof. Afoakwa noted. “These servers will allow our students to gain real-world experience working with actual infrastructure, which is vital for their readiness for the job market.”

The MD highlighted the company’s commitment to supporting digital education and youth development in Ghana.

The Managing Director of LMI-DIGITAL, Mr. Samuel Asare, who led the delegation from the company, emphasised that the donation aligns with LMI-DIGITAL’s mission to support the development of young professionals in engineering and ICT. “It’s fulfilling to see the University’s plans to expand its facilities. That aligns perfectly with what we’re trying to achieve — helping to nurture the next generation of engineers and cybersecurity professionals,” he said. “We’re excited and will definitely consider further support.”

The officials inspected the servers

Earlier, the Dean of the Faculty of Computing and Information Systems, Dr. William Leslie Brown-Acquaye, welcomed the donation, describing it as timely and impactful. “We’ve assessed the servers and are pleased with what we’ve received. This donation means our students can now interact with actual servers, helping them to bridge the gap between theory and practice,” he stated. “We’re hoping this is just the beginning — we definitely need more.”
The Vice-Chancellor was joined by key members of the University Management, including the Registrar, Mr. Emmanuel Baidoo; Director of Finance, Mr. Ernest Yaw Apraku and Director of Internal Audit, Mr. Kennedy Ofosu Oppong. Also in attendance were faculty leaders such as the Dean of FoCIS, Dr. Brown-Acquaye; Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Dr. Ruhiya Abubakar; Director of University Relations, Dr. Nusrat-Jahan Abubakar and the Head of the Department of Computer Engineering, Dr. Samuel Danso.
The MD of LMI – DIGITAL was accompanied by the Head of Operations, Madam Dorcas Fafali Tsey.
