The Management of GCTU has held a special appreciation meeting in honour of the University’s outgoing Registrar, Mr. Emmanuel Baidoo, on Wednesday, June 10, 2026.
The event, which afforded Management an opportunity to formally thank him and celebrate his contributions to the growth and development of the University over the past four years, was also attended by the Council Chairman, Ing. Divine Kpetigo.

In his opening remarks, the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ebenezer Malcalm, described Mr. Baidoo’s tenure as one marked by professionalism, commitment and exemplary service. “It is worth honouring our own. He has performed creditably well and we can all attest to his professionalism and the way he handled affairs of the University. On behalf of Management and Council, we are honouring him for the meritorious service he rendered to GCTU,” he stated.

The Chairman of Council, Ing. Divine Kpetigo, who worked closely with Mr. Baidoo, commended him for successfully navigating challenging periods in the University’s history and for his unwavering dedication to duty. He noted that although Mr. Baidoo would be returning to his parent institution, the University of Ghana, his impact at GCTU would remain significant. He expressed confidence in Mr. Baidoo’s ability to excel in his future role and wished him success in the next phase of his professional journey.

As part of the appreciation ceremony, a cheque of an undisclosed amount was presented to Mr. Baidoo by the Council Chairman on behalf of the University as a token of gratitude for his service.
In his response, Mr. Baidoo expressed profound gratitude to the University Council, Management and staff for the honour bestowed upon him.
Reflecting on his arrival at GCTU on June 1, 2022, he recalled assuming office just two weeks before a congregation ceremony and immediately immersing himself in the University’s operations. He acknowledged the immense support he received from colleagues, which enabled him to navigate challenges and achieve significant milestones during his tenure.

Mr. Baidoo highlighted several reforms introduced under his leadership, particularly efforts to strengthen the University’s administrative systems. Among these was the introduction of a more rigorous selection process for prospective Assistant Registrars, including interviews and examinations aimed at assessing administrative competencies.
He expressed satisfaction that many of the objectives outlined in his five-point vision had been implemented with the support of Management and Council and encouraged staff to continue building on the foundations established. “As Registrar and Head of Administration, our role is to provide the vehicle through which the University’s academic mandate is achieved. Together, we strengthened the administrative core, and I am confident that the work we have started will continue,” he said.
Mr. Baidoo further expressed confidence in the Acting Registrar and the administrative team to sustain the momentum and continue advancing GCTU’s vision of becoming the foremost technology university in Ghana and the wider West African sub-region.
Colleagues and members of Management present also took the opportunity to pay tribute to the outgoing Registrar with speakers highlighting his professionalism, humility, mentorship, accessibility and commitment to institutional development.
The ceremony also served as a prelude to an official University send-off event scheduled to be held later in the week in honour of Mr. Baidoo’s service and contributions to GCTU.
