An Economist and a Microeconometrician with research interest in gender, development and financial economics

    Prof. Frank Gyimah Sackey is an Economist, a Microeconometrician and educationist with research interest in gender, development, and financial economics. Prof. Sackey’s professional career started from the Department of Economics, now School of Economics of the University of Cape Coast as a Senior Research Assistant where he lectured in Economics at the undergraduate level. He was part of the three-member team that secured a TALIF fund for the introduction of an M.Sc. (Economics of Technology and Development) Sandwich Programme in the Department of Economics.

    He later joined the Central Region Development Commission (CEDECOM), as a Senior Project/ Research Officer in charge of investment promotion and training of micro and small-scale entrepreneurs in the Central Region of Ghana. While at CEDECOM, he helped to secure some funds from the Micro and Small Loan Centre (MASLOC) for the expansion of the CEDECOM Microfinance Centre. .

    He later joined the Catholic University College of Ghana as a lecturer. In 2013 he left for Spain to pursue a PhD on a Marti Franqués Fellowship at the Universitat Rovira i Virgili, one of the top Public Universities in Spain. While there, he lectured in International Economic Relations that attracted a lot of students on the Erasmus Mundus exchange programme for three consecutive years in the Campus Terres de l’Ebre, Reus

    He was also a visiting PhD scholar at the Department of Economics of the University of Copenhagen in Denmark. In 2016, he returned to the Catholic University College of Ghana upon completion of his PhD as a Lecturer and later rose to the rank of a Senior Lecturer and appointed as the Dean of the School of Research and Graduate Studies. It was during his time that the University’s MBA and MPH programmes had large enrolments as quality was assured.

    In 2019, he Joined the now Ghana Communication Technology University as the Head of the Department of Economics and now the Director of the Institute of Continuing and Distance Education. He is a Research Fellow of the International Network for Economic Research (INFER).
