The Chartered Institute of Human Resource Management (CIHRM) Ghana and the Department of Management Studies, GCTU, have formalized a partnership in a brief ceremony held on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at the Pro-Vice-Chancellor’s Chamber at the Main Campus, Tesano.
The partnership is aimed at strengthening collaboration in human resource management education, professional development and industry engagement.
In his opening remarks, the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ebenezer Malcalm, underscored the importance of sound human resource management in promoting effective leadership, workforce development, employee engagement and organisational culture.
Prof. Malcalm noted that the initiative was timely, given rapid technological transformation and changing workplace dynamics, which require stronger collaboration between academia and professional bodies to bridge the gap between education and industry.
He emphasized that the agreement should translate into practical and mutually beneficial activities, including joint programmes, professional development and knowledge-sharing initiatives that would create lasting value for both institutions and the society.
Giving the overview of the event, former Dean of the Business School, Prof. Theresa Obuobisa-Darko, outlined the scope of the collaboration as follows:
- Programme Review and Accreditation
- Joint Research, Knowledge and Resource Sharing
- Professional Development, Training and Membership
Prof. Obuobisa-Darko noted that GCTU will maintain high academic standards in the delivery of programmes approved by CIHRM Ghana.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Interim CEO of CIHRM Ghana, Mrs. Florence A. S. Adjadeh, stressed the importance of positioning human resource management as a strategic profession essential to organizational success.
She said the initiative would strengthen HR education, develop industry-ready professionals and create opportunities for students. She noted that the future of work required ethical, technologically savvy, strategic and adaptable HR professionals and urged both institutions to ensure that the agreement produced meaningful outcomes beyond the ceremony.
Speaking on the departmental perspective and expected outcomes of the MoU, the Head of the Department of Management, Dr. Ethel Yiranbon Annor-Tenkorang, expressed hope that the initiative would create greater opportunities for students and faculty while contributing to the development of competent and ethical HR professionals in Ghana.
