The Centre for Strategic Business and Professional Development (CSBPD) at GCTU has officially launched a three-month intensive training programme in Computer Networking for IT professionals. The training, which began on Saturday, June 28, 2025, is being held exclusively on Saturdays at the University’s Forensic Lab on the Main Campus.
The programme has attracted 15 participants, including students and representatives from the Ghana Armed Forces. This initiative is part of CSBPD’s commitment to providing practical, industry-relevant training aimed at empowering professionals with cutting-edge technological skills.

In her opening remarks, Ms. Veronica Agbugblah, Junior Assistant Registrar at CSBPD, welcomed the participants and emphasized the Centre’s mission to offer non-academic, industry-focused training programmes. She highlighted that CSBPD runs a variety of programmes from short-term workshops to extended three-month courses, all tailored to enhance practical knowledge and workplace relevance.
“This programme is part of our three-month accelerated training series,” Ms. Agbugblah noted. “GCTU is a one-stop hub where you can start from diploma and move through to the PhD level. We are delighted to have you here and encourage you to actively participate. After this course, we will be running a follow-up programme in Computer Network Security, and we encourage you to register for that as well.”

In his remarks, the facilitator of the programme and Deputy Director of the ICT Directorate at GCTU, Mr. Daniel Mohammed, whose commitment is to bring a wealth of academic and professional experience to the classroom, emphasized that “This training is designed to be 70% practical and 30% theoretical.” He added that “We will learn together in a collaborative environment and I will make sure to expose you to real-world networking experiences both within and outside campus.”
He also revealed plans to involve participants in ongoing field assignments, such as cabling work and data center setups, including visits to GCTU’s upcoming ultra-modern ICT lab and existing server room facilities.
Mr. Mohammed encouraged participants to go beyond the classroom by staying current with technological advancements, using real-life examples, underscoring the ever-evolving nature of IT and the importance of continuous learning.

“Don’t aim to be like me; Aim to be better than me. That’s the only way to stay ahead in this fast-paced industry,” he advised.
He further introduced foundational concepts in networking, including the basics of peer-to-peer versus client-server architectures and emphasized the importance of understanding network devices and infrastructure.
This workshop will continue on Saturday, July 5, 2025 and every Saturday over the next three months. CSBPD remains committed to equipping professionals with the knowledge and tools to transform their respective organizations through IT.
