VC Cuts Tape To Open Newly Refurbished GCTU Library
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Emmanuel Ohene Afoakwa, has cut the tape to officially open the newly refurbished Main Library of GCTU on Monday, January 27, 2025.
The event also marked the interim handing over of the facility by Mansatac Solutions Ltd., the contractor tasked with the renovation, pending the expiration of the six-month defect liability period.
In his opening remarks, Prof. Afoakwa emphasized Management’s commitment to transforming GCTU into Ghana’s “Silicon Valley of Education” through infrastructural development and innovation.
“This library has been around for many years but there was an urgent need to recondition it to align with our mission and vision of creating Ghana’s Silicon Valley. Entering this library will now feel like stepping into the Harvard University library,” he remarked enthusiastically.
The Vice-Chancellor commended the Director of Works and his team for ensuring that the project was completed on schedule and expressed appreciation to Mansatac Solutions for delivering a high-quality facility. He also noted the University’s plans to expand the library in the future to meet the needs of its growing student population.
The refurbished library, which now boasts a seating capacity of 124, features a circulation desk, a security post, comfortable couches and Wi-Fi connectivity. During an inspection of the facility, Prof. Afoakwa assured the University Librarian, Mrs. Afua Frimpong-Kore, that additional chairs would be provided promptly to match the number of desks in the library. He added that desktop computers would soon be installed for the use of library staff.
The Director of Works and Physical Development, Surveyor Gordon Baapiri, highlighted the collaborative effort that made the refurbishment a success.
“Last year, through the efforts of the Vice-Chancellor, we secured GETFund support for this project. It was awarded to Mansatac Solutions Ltd. and the contractor has delivered on time and to specification,” he stated, thanking all parties involved.
On his part, the Managing Director of Mansatac Solutions Ltd., Mr. Michael Owusu Tackie, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to contribute to GCTU’s development.

The VC led the ceremony, accompanied by Senior Management members including the Pro Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Robert Ebo Hinson, the Registrar, Mr. Emmanuel Baidoo, the Director of Finance, Mr. Ernest Yaw Apraku and the Director of Internal Audit, Mr. Kennedy Oppong Fosu. The library, described as a “centerpiece for learning and innovation,” is now ready to serve GCTU students, faculty and staff as the institution continues its journey toward educational excellence.
