GCTU Ladies Association Hosts Breakfast Meeting And Thanksgiving Celebration
The Ghana Communication Technology University Ladies Association (GCTULA) has hosted a breakfast meeting and Thanksgiving celebration on December 18, 2024, at the Eva Von Hirsch Auditorium.
The event, dubbed “Ladies in Noel Breakfast Meeting and Thanksgiving,” aimed to provide a platform for reflection, reconnection and acknowledgment of God’s guidance and support throughout the year.
In her brief remarks, the GCTULA President, Dr. Afia Nyarko Boakye paid homage to the members of the Association while acknowledging their importance to the institution. She noted that at the conclusion of each year, resolutions are made, some of which are accomplished while others remain unfulfilled. She stressed the importance of reassessing unmet resolutions to identify areas for improvement. Dr. Boakye challenged the Ladies Association members to be change-makers and make a meaningful difference in their homes, workplaces and beyond.
Speaking at the event, the Registrar, Mr. Emmanuel Baidoo, who represented the Vice-Chancellor and Patron of GCTULA, Prof. Emmanuel Ohene Afoakwa, emphasized that the Association serves as a beacon of excellence, demonstrating the transformative impact of women, collaborating to achieve remarkable goals. “Through your various initiatives and activities, you have demonstrated a deep commitment to supporting one another, promoting women’s empowerment and contributing to the overall well-being of our University Community,” he elaborated.
Mr. Baidoo expressed his sincere appreciation to the Ladies Association Executives for their exceptional leadership and guidance which had ensured the group’s continued success throughout the year. According to him, the VC had assured the Association of his unwavering support, stating his commitment to the Association’s continued growth and success.
“As we celebrate the end of another successful year, I would like to wish each and every one of you a joyous Christmas season filled with love, laughter and all the things that bring you joy,” he indicated.
Earlier, in her brief, yet inspirational exhortation, the Chairperson of the Chaplaincy Board and a Faculty member of the Economics Department, Rev. Prof. Ivy Drafor-Amenyah, offered a heartfelt word of encouragement and reflection. She emphasized that women are wonderful and a vital source of solutions in society.
Rev. Prof. Drafor-Amenyah highlighted five key areas where women should focus their attention, including, speech (being mindful of how they speak and communicate effectively), appearance (dressing well and presenting themselves with dignity), priorities (focusing on what truly matters and allocating time and energy accordingly), relationship with God (nurturing a deep and meaningful connection with their Creator) and self-presentation (being aware of body language and ensuring it reflects their values and character.
“As women, we must be mindful of how we carry ourselves, recognizing that our body language speaks volumes about our character and values,” she noted. Rev. Prof. Drafor-Amenyah reminded the GCTULA to have regard for good things and pay attention to important things. She further stressed that the festive season served as an opportunity to reconnect with loved ones and “refocus on what truly adds value to our lives.”
The event featured a series of goodwill messages from the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG), the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA), the Teachers and Educational Workers Union (TEWU) and the Student Representative Council (SRC), demonstrating a spirit of cooperation and camaraderie within the University community.
